The organization operates 805 long-term care beds and 308 seniors’ apartment units, with an additional 224 long-term care beds opening in a new home by June 2026. In addition, Yee Hong offers four campuses of managed care, a hospice residence, and a wide range of community-based senior and caregiver support services. Through this comprehensive network, the organization serves more than 15,000 individuals annually across the Greater Toronto Area. Position Overview The Manager, People Rewards & Payroll plays a key leadership role in supporting the organization’s mission of enabling seniors to live their lives to the fullest with dignity, quality of care, and quality of life. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this role is responsible for the leadership and delivery of payroll, compensation, benefits, pension, and total rewards programs across the organization. The Manager ensures payroll accuracy and compliance while supporting strategies that attract, retain, and support a stable workforce in a unionized long-term care environment. The role supervises Payroll Administrators and works closely with Finance and HR leaders to ensure payroll, benefits, and compensation programs align with organizational priorities and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities Payroll Leadership Lead payroll operations and supervise Payroll Administrators to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing. Ensure payroll compliance with legislation, collective agreements, and internal policies. Oversee payroll deductions, pension contributions, remittances, and year-end reporting. Maintain strong payroll controls, data integrity, and audit processes. Partner with Finance to reconcile payroll accounts and support financial reporting. Ensure timely processing of Records of Employment (ROEs). Compensation & Total Rewards Develop and maintain compensation structures aligned with labour market trends and organizational strategy. Conduct salary benchmarking and compensation analysis. Support pay equity compliance and compensation audits. Provide recommendations on compensation adjustments and workforce planning. Lead and conduct job evaluations. Support recognition and total rewards initiatives that strengthen employee engagement. Benefits & Pension Administration Oversee administration of employee benefits, retirement savings, and pension plans. Ensure accurate plan enrolment, changes, and terminations. Liaise with benefits carriers and pension administrators to resolve claims and inquiries. Coordinate disability and leave-related benefits programs. Monitor benefits utilization and provide recommendations to optimize program value and sustainability. HR Systems & Data Maintain payroll and compensation data integrity within HRIS systems (e.g., Workday). Support payroll system integration with time and attendance and workforce management systems. Generate reports and analytics related to payroll costs, benefits, and compensation trends. Adjust service/seniority data in accordance with Collective Agreements Leave Administration Oversee administration of employee leaves including statutory, disability, and parental leaves. Ensure accurate payroll adjustments and compliance with legislative requirements. Renews and ensures compliance with SUB plans Leadership & Program Support Provide coaching and oversight to Payroll Administrators. Establish standardized payroll procedures and documentation. Support HR initiatives including recognition programs and HR communications. Maintain compliance with privacy, risk management, and data security requirements. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. CHRL designation and/or CEBS certification considered an asset. Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in payroll, compensation, benefits, or total rewards. Experience supervising payroll staff. Experience in a unionized environment, preferably in healthcare, long-term care, or non-profit sectors. Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, benefits administration, and pension programs. Experience with HRIS systems such as Workday. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and stakeholder relationship skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Ability to communicate in English and Chinese considered an asset.
