Responsible for the oversight of pharmaceutical distribution and quality control for the Enterprise Pharmacy Warehouse at West Virginia University Health System through involvement in operational, educational and administrative activities. Assists the Warehouse Manager with daily operations of the Enterprise Pharmacy Warehouse and assumes responsibility in Manager or Directors absence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  • Must possess current license as required by state board where services will be provided:

PA: Pharmacist license through the Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy

MD: Pharmacist license through the Maryland Board of Pharmacy

OH: Pharmacist license through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy

WV: Pharmacist license through the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy

Remote Workers Only: Must additionally hold current Pharmacist license issued by state of residence.

EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) years as a pharmacist in a pharmacy setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  • Pharm.D. from an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • . Board Certification in a pharmacy specialty.

EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) years’ experience pharmaceutical oversight and/or quality control with leadership experience.

  • Provides leadership and care for Warehouse operations in assigned areas of responsibility Oversees and guides team on the best practices and established guidelines for Warehouse workflow. Assures safe and effective distribution and quality of medications. Assures compliance with national standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment. Maintains a high degree of customer service commitment by taking a proactive approach by meeting with customers to ensure their product and delivery needs are met. Responds to customer complaints to ensure corrective measures have been taken and communicated when warranted.
  • Provides objective information on the performance of co-workers within the Enterprise Warehouse to facilitate performance management.
  • Perform quality oversight of pre-packed medications to assure accuracy and proper documentation..
  • Directs pharmacy team engaged in repackaging and proper labeling of pharmaceuticals.
  • Analyze and trend drug supply costs, spend, and utilization data with a focus on high-cost products.
  • Detects, reports, and helps to prevent medication errors, mis-picks, inaccurate order fills and offers constructive ideas for resolution.. Assures adequate and timely submission of data and reports for performance improvement activities.
  • Assumes responsibility for and assists in decisions related to the provision of pharmacy Warehouse services.
  • Actively engages Enterprise facilities with respect to program integrations offered by the pharmacy.
  • Ensures that policies and procedures related to repackaging and drug distribution are updated and followed.
  • Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance and hazardous drug management.
  • Participates in the orientation and education of pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, and/or new department employees.
  • Maintains professional competence by attending and presenting at conferences, continuing educational programs, reading current professional literature and publishing clinical or practice-related experience or research.
  • Participates in administrative, quality assurance, performance improvement and research activities of the department.
  • Assist in supervising staff in regards to drug repackaging and distribution duties.
  • Participates in medication use evaluations, quality assurance, workflow, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Assists in instructing pharmacy technicians, interns and other pharmacy personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacy state/federal law.
  • Participates in planning and implementing changes in the pharmacy and improves productivity through participation in staff meetings and projects.
  • Assist Manager or Director in leading committees, projects, and workgroups.
  • Responsible for Quality Improvement Projects that directly impact their area
  • Holds routine meetings for operations team to provide updates and for quality improvement.
  • Assumes leadership role in absence of the Warehouse Manager.
  • Assists with input from Warehouse Manager in updating or writing departmental job descriptions.
  • Ensures services are in compliance with professional standards, state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Assumes Role of Pharmacist in Charge if appointed by Manager/Director.
