Property Accounting Manager
North York, ON - 5 days per week in office
$110,000-$115,000 base plus discretionary bonus
Our client is a well-established property management and real estate investment company with over 20 years of success and a 2+ million square foot portfolio across Canada. They are known for their strong tenant relationships and a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
We’re looking for an experienced
Property Accounting Manager
to lead and oversee the property and corporate accounting functions. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team, driving financial accuracy, and ensuring the smooth operation of accounting processes. This is a leadership position where you will have a direct impact on the financial performance of the company.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor junior team members and senior accountants, ensuring high performance and professional development.
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, providing guidance and resolving issues as they arise.
- Ensure internal controls are effectively implemented and maintained, making recommendations for process improvements.
- Review and approve month-end reports and variance analysis, ensuring accuracy and addressing any discrepancies.
- Manage fixed asset accounting and recoverable amortization schedules in line with company policies.
- Oversee monthly recurring journal entries and ensure recovery accuracy.
- Lead the budget process, including property tax budgets and recovery assumptions.
- Oversee MPAC reporting and annual recovery reconciliations.
- Monitor daily bank activity and manage fund transfers to ensure adequate liquidity.
- Provide financial planning insights based on cash flow timelines.
- Manage vendor relationships and oversee corporate HST returns.
- Handle payroll and government remittances (T4s, ROEs, etc.).
- Support stakeholders with financial advice and problem-solving.
Requirements
- 5+ years of accounting experience in real estate or property management, with supervisory experience.
- Some supervisory experience
- Excellent leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills – able to engage with stakeholders and team members effectively.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
