Position Description
Duties and Responsibilities
Farm Management
- Full-time, year-round position involving all aspects of livestock and forage production on the farm’s 238 acres. Currently, 60 cow/calf operation, annual Kiko Buck Test, and hair sheep.
- Maintain and implement needed certifications required by livestock marketing practices.
- Maintain and implement daily record keeping
- Work closely with the WBAIC BOD to develop livestock marketing and grazing plans.
- Provide training and supervision to youth or students using the WBAIC for educational purposes. Example: Supervision of co-op students from Monroe, Greenbrier, and Summers Counties.
- Operate, maintain and care for farm equipment, tractor, implements, etc.
- Work closely with existing research projects and implementing new research projects that increase revenue for the WBAIC.
- Keeping the appearance of the farm aesthetically pleasing to visitors and the local community.
- Work diligently to abide by production requirements associated with external grant funding requirements
Business Development
- Work closely with the WBAIC BOD to develop a long term financial integrated plan for the WBAIC
- Work closely with the WBAIC BOD to develop and implement and annual budget for farm operations.
- Work closely with the WBAIC BOD to develop and implement relative and applied grant opportunities that can increase revenue and are prevalent to the production practices at the WBAIC.
- Collaborate with outside researchers interested in incorporation of applied, relevant research at the WBAIC.
- Aid with the completion of grant reports associated with activities related to the WBAIC.
Qualifications
- Experience and understanding of soil health, livestock and forage production.
- Hold a valid drivers license and pass a background and drug test.
- Ability to supervise, manage and teach youth and students interested in learning about new management techniques associated with sustainable farming practices.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and work outdoors for extended periods of time.
- Completion of a grazing school will be required within a year if not already completed.
- Adaptability, reliability and good communication skills and a positive attitude are a must
- Good computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Programs, Email, etc.
- Ability to speak in public during farm tours and provide informative information relating to practices and financials related to the WBAIC.
Salary Information:
- Starting Salary at $40,000
- 40 hours per week, with flex time available
- 4 Bedroom brick ranch house may be available in compensation package if needed.
