Senior Process Automation Engineer

Our client is a leader in advancing industrial efficiency and is seeking a highly skilled Senior Process Automation Engineer for a fully remote position. This role is critical for designing, implementing, and optimizing automated control systems that drive our manufacturing and operational processes. You will leverage your expertise in automation technologies, PLCs, SCADA, and HMI systems to enhance productivity, ensure safety, and maintain the highest levels of operational performance. Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex industrial automation and control systems. Configure, program, and troubleshoot PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), PACs (Programmable Automation Controllers), DCS (Distributed Control Systems), and related hardware. Develop and maintain SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces) for effective process monitoring and control. Integrate automation systems with enterprise software (e.g., MES, ERP) to ensure seamless data flow and operational visibility. Perform system diagnostics, root cause analysis, and implement solutions for automation-related issues to minimize downtime. Develop and maintain automation project documentation, including P&IDs, electrical schematics, functional specifications, and programming standards. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, mechanical engineering, and IT, to define automation requirements and ensure successful project execution. Stay current with emerging automation technologies, including robotics, IoT, AI in industrial settings, and Industry 4.0 principles. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior automation engineers and technicians. Ensure all automation systems comply with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and cybersecurity best practices. Manage automation project timelines, budgets, and vendor relationships. Conduct factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) for automation systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in industrial automation and control systems engineering. Proven expertise in programming and configuration of major PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Schneider Electric). Strong experience with SCADA/HMI software (e.g., Wonderware, Ignition, FactoryTalk View). Solid understanding of industrial networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profibus/Profinet, Modbus). Experience with robotic programming and integration is a plus. Familiarity with cybersecurity principles for industrial control systems. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. Strong project management abilities and experience managing project lifecycles. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote team environment.
