Unit overview
The Western Communications team provides strategic advice to university senior leadership, faculty, staff and teams of internal and external communications staff across Western in order to build the university’s brand on a local, national and global scale.
Responsibilities
The Brand Designer will be a lead brand designer, responsible for conceptualizing, designing and executing innovative and compelling brand solutions that bring the brand identity to life, enhance the University’s reputation, and communicate ideas that inspire, inform and captivate key audiences.
The role will deliver integrated brand design for highly visible national and international channels, including online, print, out of home, interactive digital, and on-campus experiences. The Brand Designer will maintain and enhance Western’s brand identity standards, develop and optimize brand design templates, and provide consultation, best practices and guidance to other designers. The Brand Designer will have an overall goal of advancing the University's reputation through progressive and engaging brand design.
Ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will have a degree or diploma in graphic design, visual communications, or a related discipline, along with several years of experience in brand design, preferably within a complex or multi-stakeholder environment.
They are a creative and progressive designer with an ability to think big, take risks, and bring out of the box solutions. They have a strong understanding of design fundamentals including layout, typography, application, and color theory.
They bring a strong ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, excellent communication skills to effectively convey design processes, ideas, and solutions and are proficient designing with Adobe Creative suite of software: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe XD & After Effects.
The successful candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of quality. Experience supporting large brands, postsecondary institutions, or mission-driven organizations is considered an asset.

This is an 18 month temporary full time contract opportunity with a benefits package. The base salary will be $66,350 - $94,700 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.
