Technical Sales Representative - North America Base $80-120K plus sales incentives
Westboro Photonics | Ottawa, ON (hybrid) | Full-Time
About Westboro Photonics
We build imaging photometers and colorimeters that measure light, precisely. Our instruments help the world’s leading display, automotive, aerospace, and AR/VR companies answer a deceptively simple question: does this look right to the human eye? If you’re the kind of person who finds it fascinating that “white” on a screen is actually a carefully calibrated mix of wavelengths, you’ll fit right in.
We're a small, tight-knit team based in Ottawa. We're serious about the science, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. Dogs are welcome in the office. Birthdays get celebrated. And we nerd out on solving hard problems together.
The Role
We’re looking for someone who sits at the intersection of strong technical skills and a natural ability to connect with people. You have a science or engineering background, you’re curious about light and color, and you get real satisfaction from explaining something deeply technical so that it clicks for someone else.
In this role, you’ll work across the full sales process in North America, from reaching out to new prospects and learning about their measurement challenges to demonstrating our technology and building lasting relationships. We’ll teach you our products and our market. What we need you to bring is the combination of technical aptitude and people skills that makes someone great at this work.
What You’ll Do
- Learn our instruments and Photometrica® software inside and out. You’ll become the person customers trust to solve their measurement problems
- Reach out to and build relationships with engineers, researchers, and technical decision-makers across industries like displays, automotive, aerospace, and AR/VR
- Understand each customer’s unique application and recommend the right solution
- Conduct compelling product demonstrations, both in person and remotely
- Manage your territory’s pipeline of opportunities from first conversation through close and post-delivery support
- Collaborate closely with our Engineering team, especially on custom or non-standard applications
- Track your activities and opportunities in Salesforce
- Share what you’re learning from the market — competitive moves, emerging needs, industry shifts — to help shape our direction
- Travel 25%+ within North America for customer meetings, demos, and trade shows
What You Bring
- B.Sc. or B.Eng. in optics, physics, electrical engineering, or a related technical field
- Strong communication skills. You can turn technical concepts into clear, engaging conversations with both engineers and executives
- Curiosity about optics, light and color measurement, imaging systems
- A collaborative, proactive approach. You enjoy reaching out to new people and building rapport quickly
- Comfort with learning new technology and becoming a hands-on expert
- Proficiency with CRM tools (Salesforce experience is a plus)
- Willingness to travel (25%+, primarily North America)
Nice to Have
- Experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or customer-facing technical roles
- Background in photonics, display technology, imaging systems, or a related field
- Experience doing technical presentations or product demos
Why Westboro Photonics?
Our values aren’t a poster on the wall. They’re how we actually work. We enjoy helping people. We drive innovation. We’re transparent. We take care of the environment. We deliver exceptional service. And we have fun doing it.
You’ll join a company where your ideas matter, where you’ll work directly with the people who design and build the instruments, and where your growth is something we invest in. If you love technology, enjoy building relationships across borders, and want a career where both of those things matter, let’s talk.
How to Apply
Send your resume and a brief note about why this role interests you. We’d love to hear what excites you about the intersection of optics and sales.
