ABOUT THE PLATFORM ENGINEERING TEAM:

Wealthsimple's PE org builds the systems that the rest of engineering builds on. We operate Platform-as-a-Product: our developers are our customers, and we're measured by the leverage we give them. Our work shapes how every engineer at Wealthsimple writes, ships, and runs code. When we do it well, the whole company moves faster and ships with more confidence.

You'll join one of our Platform teams and take ownership of significant pieces of the developer experience. You'll work hands-on across the full lifecycle: designing, building, shipping, and operating the systems engineers depend on every day. You'll lead projects end-to-end, partner with the teams that use what you build, and grow your influence beyond your immediate team as you go. This job posting covers two distinct areas:

• Platform Engineering: You build the systems that enable engineers to build, ship, and operate software reliably and efficiently, including developer platforms, internal tooling, CI/CD and software delivery systems, cloud infrastructure and service frameworks, reliability and observability tooling, and large-scale distributed systems. The focus is on improving developer productivity, system reliability, and software delivery speed.
• Data Platforms: You build the infrastructure that powers data, analytics, and machine learning across the company, including data ingestion pipelines and orchestration, large-scale data warehousing, streaming and batch processing systems, data modeling, quality and governance, and analytics enablement. The focus is on delivering trusted, scalable, and high-quality data systems.

IN ONE THESE ROLES YOU'LL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:

• Design and build production-grade distributed systems
• Own technical architecture in your domain (Platform or Data)
• Improve reliability, scalability, and performance of core systems
• Work closely with internal users (engineers or data practitioners)
• Participate in operational ownership (on-call where applicable)
• Lead projects end-to-end from design to production

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

Senior engineers with deep experience in one of the two areas below:

• Platform Engineering (infrastructure, developer platforms, SRE)
• Data Engineering (data infrastructure, pipelines, analytics systems)

CORE EXPECTATIONS (ALL CANDIDATES):

• 7+ years building production systems
• Strong experience in distributed systems or data-intensive systems
• Experience owning system design decisions
• Operational experience (production support, incidents, debugging)
• Experience building systems used by other engineers or data teams

NICE TO HAVE

• Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS/GCP/Kubernetes)
• CI/CD or developer tooling experience (Platform track)
• dbt, Airflow, Snowflake, or similar tools (Data track)
• Observability, reliability engineering, or data quality systems
• Experience working across both domains (not required)
