Reporting to the Team Photographer, the Photographer will be an integral part of shaping the visual storytelling of the Washington Nationals’ ballpark experience. The position will join the Washington Nationals Photo Team on game days as well as provide support for on and off-field events, archival organization, and department requests. The primary focus will be on photographing the action and ballpark atmosphere, with live editing and organizing images following events and games. There will be opportunities to assist in capturing additional game initiatives and imaging needs that support the sales, marketing, and communications departments.

This is a part-time, limited term position. The duration of this position is from May to October 2026.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with coverage of game day needs such as player arrivals, clubhouse setup, batting practice, pregame ceremonies, game day promotions and activations, game action, fan photos, ballpark atmosphere, sponsorship signage, and more.
  • On occasion, edit top images from the live feed of content during games for immediate social and requested use.
  • Cull through all images postgame and after events for selective editing.
  • Edit the culled images from each event with a team preset to ensure a cohesive look across all team photography.
  • Assist in maintaining and organizing the team’s online photo archiving system (PhotoShelter), and in the distribution of images to all departments.
  • Caption and tag photos in Photo Mechanic with high accuracy to ensure ease in locating in the future.
  • Assist in studio photoshoots with planning, designing, lighting, set up, and capturing high-quality images.
  • Collaborate with Team Photographer to fulfill photo requests from Social, Communications, Player Relations, Nationals Philanthropies, Corporate Sponsorship, Ticket Sales, Marketing, etc.
  • Support Team Photographer in coordinating with the media photographers in the photo wells.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Compensation

The projected wage rate for this position is $27.00 per hour. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.

ExperienceRequired

  • Gameday: Job requires employee to function in a high activity and heavily crowded outdoor professional sports venue. May work at heights. Employee will be exposed to inclement weather of varying degrees. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk long distances, and climb up/down stairs. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit and must lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.

  • Office: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work requires weekend and/or evening work whenever there are games or events scheduled.

  • Trust builder with discretion of the highest order.

  • Action-oriented, highly organized, and ability to multi-task.

  • Strong artistic vision and creative abilities.

  • Good working knowledge of Apple Mac OS.

  • Demonstrated experience using PhotoShelter and file management.

  • Advanced expertise using Photo Mechanic and ability to write general metadata to ensure proper organization and retrieval of image files.

  • Demonstrated experience regularly using Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, including Lightroom Classic and Photoshop.

  • Must successfully clear a background check.

  • Must have U.S. work authorization.

  • Professional photography experience, preferably within professional or college sports organizations, or equivalent experience gained through relevant college courses.
