Position Summary
War Child is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our Growth and Communications team. This role provides valuable hands-on experience in digital communication, content creation, and social media management while contributing to meaningful social change.
The Communications Officer will assist in content collection, writing for various platforms, troubleshooting digital marketing issues, and coordinating the dissemination of communication materials. Working under the guidance of the Communications Manager, this role offers an excellent opportunity to build transferable skills and expand professional experience in the non-profit sector.
This position requires a passion for using digital media and communication strategies to amplify social impact.
Responsibilities
Content Creations and Management
- Assist with collecting and creating content for multiple social media platforms, digital emails, donor correspondence, and reports.
- Design graphics and perform basic video editing for promotional and social media content.
Digital Marketing Support
- Troubleshoot back-end digital marketing and social media questions, while tracking and analyzing outreach metrics.
Coordination and Outreach
- Assist in creating and sharing communication materials or toolkits with partners and networks (e.g., universities, colleges, schools).
- Ensure consistency in messaging and alignment with War Child’s values across all materials.
Administration Support
- Support the maintenance of communication calendars and reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the Growth and Communications team.
Qualifications
Experience & Knowledge
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Post-Secondary degree or diploma, preferably in Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
- Experience in a non-profit or NGO environment is an asset.
- Familiarity with digital communication platforms, content creation tools, or graphic design software is a bonus.
Skills & Ability
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks under tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with tools like Canva, Adobe Suite, or equivalent graphic design software.

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements established by the program, which can be viewed at the following link. This internship will run for 8 weeks, with a schedule of 30 hours per week.
