This is a hands-on, facility-based role requiring close coordination with warehouse, maintenance, and operations personnel to implement standardized inventory identification, storage, security, and change management practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Physical Tagging & Location Mapping

  • Generate and assign unique GS1 QR codes to each part to enable standardized identification.
  • Produce and apply barcode/QR labels in the appropriate size, density, and finish for durability in a warehouse environment.
  • Provision and maintain scanning equipment (mobile devices/tablets) required for parts identification.
  • Conduct physical verification audits to confirm that part locations match system records.

Optimized Layout & Parts Placement

  • Identify and assign storage zones based on part size, weight, and accessibility requirements.
  • Create and maintain bin location coding (aisle/rack/shelf/partition) for consistent inventory mapping.
  • Conduct storeroom safety compliance audits covering egress, lighting, and flammable storage.
  • Define and implement 5S rules, policies, and KPIs for the spare parts room.
  • Establish receiving protocols, including system entry requirements prior to parts issuance.
  • Set up staging areas for received parts pending inventory update.
  • Group related items to support kitting and operational efficiency.

Security & Access Control:

  • Support deployment of badge- or facial-recognition-based, role-based access control for the storeroom.
  • Assist in implementing video monitoring systems with access logs linked to timestamps.
  • Standardize and enforce parts checkout procedures from the storeroom.

Training & Change Management

  • Support delivery of Train-the-Trainer sessions for administrators and plant trainers.
  • Deliver training on digital workflows, including work order approvals and parts request processes.
  • Train personnel on standardized parts entry methodology and checkout procedures.
  • Train personnel on cycle count audit procedures, badge access protocols, and mobile device usage.
  • Train personnel on 5S compliance and ongoing maintenance standards.
  • Support definition of RACI matrices across maintenance, stores, and operations functions.
  • Implement tracking mechanisms to monitor work order discipline and parts issuance compliance.
  • Support establishment of governance boards to oversee change management adoption.

Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in warehouse operations, inventory/materials management, or MRO/spare parts storeroom setup.
  • At least 1-2 years of hands-on experience with barcode/QR-based identification systems and CMMS/ERP inventory processes (e.g., cataloguing, bin/location mapping, cycle counting).
  • Demonstrated experience implementing or maintaining 5S / lean warehouse practices in an industrial or plant environment.
  • Prior experience designing or delivering hands-on training programs (e.g., Train-the-Trainer) to frontline and administrative staff.
  • Experience supporting or implementing physical access control/security systems (badge, facial recognition, or video monitoring) is an asset.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Working knowledge of CMMS/ERP platforms (e.g., FIIX, SAP) for parts entry, work orders, and inventory tracking.
  • Proficiency with mobile scanning devices/tablets and standard MS Office tools (Excel in particular).
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to conduct audits (safety, inventory, compliance) methodically.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordinating across maintenance, stores, and operations teams.
  • Ability to work independently onsite, manage multiple concurrent workstreams, and meet deployment timelines.
  • Comfort working in a physical plant/warehouse environment, including extended periods of standing and walking.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in warehouse/inventory operations, with prior exposure to a storeroom setup or CMMS-to-ERP migration project.
  • Certification in 5S, Lean Six Sigma, or warehouse safety (e.g., OSHA or regional equivalent).
  • Prior experience in a consulting or client-facing implementation role.
  • Experience with GS1 standards or similar parts identification/coding frameworks.
