The Opportunity As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and scaling the services, infrastructure, APIs, and data systems that power QuickFacts' next generation of products. This position sits at the intersection of software engineering, large-scale information systems, and applied AI. You'll work closely with Product, Front-End Engineering, and DevOps teams to transform complex insurance data into intelligent customer experiences. From designing scalable microservices and data pipelines to optimizing AI-powered retrieval systems, you'll help build the technical foundation that supports thousands of users across North America. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll write production-grade code daily while also helping shape technical architecture, engineering best practices, and platform strategy. What You'll Be Doing Build AI & Data Systems Design and enhance the services, pipelines, and retrieval systems that power QuickFacts' AI, search, analytics, and data-driven experiences. Support the evolution of AI-powered products through scalable backend infrastructure and intelligent information retrieval. Own Core Platform Services Design, build, and maintain APIs and backend systems that support QuickFacts' core platform. Develop scalable microservices and distributed systems capable of supporting continued growth. Collaborate Across Teams Partner with Product, Front-End Engineering, and DevOps teams to ensure seamless integration, efficient deployments, and high-quality customer experiences. Participate in technical planning and architectural discussions across the organization. Drive Performance & Reliability Continuously monitor, profile, and optimize backend systems for performance, scalability, and reliability. Design systems that can support growing volumes of data, users, and integrations. Champion Security & Quality Implement modern security practices for authentication, authorization, encryption, and secure data handling. Maintain high standards for code quality, testing, and system resilience. Mentor & Contribute Support and mentor fellow engineers through code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing. Help foster a culture of continuous learning and engineering excellence. What We're Looking For 5+ years of professional experience as a Backend Engineer, Platform Engineer, or Full Stack Engineer working in production environments. Deep expertise in backend development using technologies such as Node.js and/or Python. Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs. Proven experience building microservices, distributed systems, data integration pipelines, or large-scale information processing systems. Strong understanding of relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, Redis, and MongoDB. Experience optimizing database performance and query efficiency. Familiarity with containerized deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and modern cloud environments including AWS, GCP, or DigitalOcean. Solid understanding of authentication frameworks, OAuth, API security, and modern encryption standards. Nice-to-Have Experience Experience developing AI-powered products utilizing modern LLM platforms. Experience with vector databases, semantic search, embeddings, retrieval systems, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures. Experience processing and managing large collections of documents or unstructured content. Familiarity with prompt engineering, model evaluation, and AI integration best practices. Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ. Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code tools including Terraform and Ansible. Familiarity with observability and monitoring platforms such as Grafana, Prometheus, and ELK. Experience working within security and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 or GDPR.
