The following position for a Sessional Lecturer is available in the Department of Philosophy for the Fall 2026 academic session. This is a posting in accordance with the Collective Agreement between The Governing Council of the University of Toronto and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3902 Unit 3. Please note that the position below is tentative, pending final course determinations and enrolments. In accordance with the Collective Agreement, this posting is being sent as an email notification to all applicants in the Department’s Applicant Pool – all persons who have submitted an application within the past thirty-six months. Salary: $19,994.95 (Sessional Lecturer I) includes 4% vacation pay
$21,398.43 (Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term) includes 6% vacation pay
$21,398.43 (Sessional Lecturer II) includes 6% vacation pay
$21,907.92 (Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term) includes 6% vacation pay
$21,907.92 (Sessional Lecturer III) includes 6% vacation pay
$22,457.80 (Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term) includes 6% vacation pay
Should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Tuesday 12:00 - 1:00 P.M.
Thursday 10:00 - 11:00 A.M.

Qualifications
- PhD in-hand, preferably in philosophy.
- Prior experience as a course instructor, preferably in Philosophy at U of T.
- Advanced prior knowledge of the subject matter of the course and topic-related teaching experience.
- Related research and a record of research achievement is considered an asset to this position.
Duties and responsibilities: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours.
Appointment Dates: September 1, 2026 – April 30, 2027
Note: All positions involve completion of any course grading not already finished by April, 2027.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
