Field Engineering Manager

About TurbineOne

TurbineOne is building Mission-AI for the Frontlines. Our Frontline Perception System (FPS) helps military and national security operators detect threats, accelerate decision-making, and unlock the power of AI at the tactical edge. We endeavor to build mission-valuable products in command and control, autonomy, and AI-enabled mission systems. We partner directly with frontline users to deliver mission-ready capabilities that work in real-world environments where speed, trust, reliability, and operational resilience matter most.

Our team is composed of experienced technologists, veterans, and operators committed to advancing national security through responsible innovation.

The Role

TurbineOne is seeking a Field Engineering Manager to lead our Field Engineering function, responsible for the technical leadership of field integrations, helping shape how TurbineOne deploys, scales, and supports our Frontline Perception System (FPS) in diverse operational environments.

This is a player-coach leadership role. You will manage a talented team of Field Engineers while remaining technically engaged in integration architecture, tooling development, and on-site deployment execution. You'll help the team prioritize integration efforts, remove obstacles, and ensure field teams and customers can execute missions reliably and repeatedly.

Unlike traditional SaaS organizations, TurbineOne delivers mission-critical AI software into customer-owned environments ranging from enterprise cloud infrastructure to tactical edge systems supporting U.S. national security missions. Success requires balancing engineering velocity with operational reliability, cybersecurity, and government compliance.

Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Engineering Operations, you will work closely with Engineering, Product, Security, and Mission Operations to ensure our field deployment capabilities continue to scale alongside our rapidly growing customer base.

What You'll Do

Lead the Field Engineering Team

  • Manage and mentor a high-performing team of field engineers, fostering a culture of ownership and technical excellence.
  • Define and standardize deployment workflows and integration playbooks to improve repeatability and reliability.
  • Ensure the operational readiness of field personnel through continuous training, robust documentation, and deployment guides.

Provide Technical Leadership

  • Set the technical strategy for field integrations, identifying gaps in current processes and implementing scalable solutions.
  • Lead the implementation and improvement of field engineering tooling, scripts (Python, Go, Bash), and automation workflows.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical integration challenges and troubleshoot high-stakes mission issues.

Build Secure Mission Infrastructure

  • Oversee the provisioning and configuration of FPS deployments within customer-owned tactical edge systems.
  • Ensure secure software delivery into comms-contested environments where speed and operational resilience are paramount.
  • Partner with Security and Product teams to align field implementation patterns with government compliance and mission requirements.

Partner Across the Company

  • Work closely with Engineering, Product, Security, Mission Operations, Field Engineering, and executive leadership.
  • Translate business priorities into actionable Field Engineering initiatives.
  • Clearly communicate priorities, risks, dependencies, timelines, and technical tradeoffs.
  • Support customer deployments, demonstrations, exercises, and mission events as needed.

Drive Mission Readiness

  • Ensure every Field Engineer is fully prepared before customer deployments, including technical readiness, certifications, and required training.
  • Maintain readiness tracking for personnel, specialized technical skills, software versions, deployment kits, and customer-specific requirements.

Build Operational Excellence

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures supporting field operations.
  • Establish metrics and dashboards for deployment readiness, utilization, customer support, and operational performance.
  • Conduct post-deployment reviews to capture and implement operational lessons learned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in Field Engineering, Systems Integration, Solutions Architecture, or related technical deployment roles.
  • 4+ years of experience leading or managing technical teams.
  • Extensive experience with Linux systems, networking, and deploying software in complex or edge-based infrastructure.
  • Experience with Docker and containerized application deployment.
  • Strong proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and data routing.
  • Experience supporting production software deployed into customer-controlled, hybrid, or mission environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing technical work while leading high-performing engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of networking, cloud infrastructure, infrastructure-as-code, automation, monitoring, logging, and operational reliability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Preferred

  • Active Top Secret or Secret Security Clearance.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or Intelligence Community software programs.
  • Experience supporting software accreditation activities, including RMF, ATO, and IATT processes.
  • Experience with Terraform, Helm, or similar modern infrastructure tooling.
  • Experience deploying software into tactical edge, disconnected, or customer-hosted environments.
  • Familiarity with secure software supply chain practices and modern DevSecOps principles.
  • Experience working in high-growth startup environments.
  • Experience supporting AI/ML platforms, edge computing, or mission software.

What Success Looks Like

  • The Field Engineering team consistently executes against clearly defined priorities with high reliability across all customer sites.
  • Customer deployments occur smoothly with minimal operational disruption.
  • Field Engineering tools and processes mature over time to support the growth of the company.
  • Field tooling and standardized workflows significantly reduce time-to-deployment and increase on-site success rates..
  • Field Engineering is viewed as a strategic enabler that bridges the gap between core engineering and tactical mission success.
  • Team members grow professionally while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.

Why Join TurbineOne
