Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented Environmental Technical Report Writer and Intermediate Biologist for our Calgary office to prepare high-quality technical documents that support environmental compliance, permitting, assessment, remediation, and project delivery. The ideal candidate will be able to translate complex environmental data into clear, accurate, and well-structured reports for regulatory agencies, clients, and both internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, this individual will assist in field work when workload permits
This position can be tailored to fit the successful candidate’s skills and preferences.
The position focuses on technical report writing and supporting the coordination and execution of compliance monitoring, stakeholder engagement, risk assessment, and remediation.
This role is an excellent opportunity to support high-profile, complex, multidisciplinary assessment and remediation projects. Technical, organizational, and leadership skills are key considerations for this position. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in achieving the strategic objectives for project delivery.
Skills
- Implement corporate and client safety programs
- Prepare federal and provincial regulatory applications and notifications
- Strong understanding of regulatory legislation, guidelines, and regulations.
- Prepare and review technical reports
- Strong, demonstrated technical written and oral communication skills are a requirement.
- Develop and contribute to project proposals and budgets
- Conduct desktop environmental assessments
- Conduct field assessments to industry standards and prepare reports for projects
- Fisheries, Fish Habitat and Aquatic Environment assessments
- Wildlife surveys and sweeps, habitat suitability
- Fish and amphibian salvage and translocation
- Wetland identification and delineation
- Classify watercourses in accordance with the Water Act COPs and Public Lands Act;
- Vegetation ecology, identification and taxonomy
- Impact Identification, Assessment and mitigation
- Soil Identification and Classification
- Identification of potential environmental constraints and mitigative measures for use during construction;
- Erosion and sediment control: runoff management, soil stabilization
- Basic GIS skills and understanding
- Geopositioning, Aerial photo interpretation
Qualifications
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in botany, biology, ecology, environmental sciences or related field with a background or experience in wetlands.
- Registration or ability to register with a professional association (e.g. PBiol, RPBio, P.Ag. BIT) within British Columbia or Alberta is required.
- Authenticating Professional in Completion and Assurance Wetland Science, Design and Engineering Work considered an asset
- 3 to 5+ years of experience in fisheries and wildlife indicators, habitat and biodiversity
- 3 to 5+ years of experience in vegetation ecology, identification and taxonomy
- A valid driver's license (min Class 5 with GDL removed)
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in remote or isolated areas, working alone, and in inclement weather (within safe and reasonable limits).
