Job Description

Trinity Western invites applications for a Program Director for In-Church Formation & Curriculum Development. This is a three-year term position that will provide leadership for the design, implementation, and assessment of church-based formation initiatives for Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) at Trinity Western University.

Beginning in August 16, 2026, the position will include some teaching alongside program leadership and curriculum development. The role will work closely with faculty, denominational partners, and local churches to advance innovative and sustainable models of graduate theological education.

The ideal candidate will have the following characteristics:

  • an earned PhD in theology, ministry, education, or a related field. (Those with a Doctor of Ministry may also be considered.)
  • demonstrated experience in pastoral ministry, theological education, or church-based leadership development.
  • experience in curriculum development and program coordination.
  • strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • ability to work collaboratively in a faith-based academic environment.
  • commitment to the mission, values, and Christian faith commitments of Trinity Western University.

The successful candidate will perform these responsibilities:

  • Program Leadership and Administration
  • Lead the planning, implementation, and ongoing management of the in-church formation initiative in alignment with grant objectives and institutional priorities.
  • Develop annual work plans, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
  • Contribute to long-term planning for the sustainability and integration of formation programming within TEDS at TWU.
  • Curriculum and Academic Collaboration
  • Design and develop curricula for in-church practicums, internships, and ministry mentorship training.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to integrate new formation pathways into existing degree programs (e.g., MDiv, MACM, undergraduate pathways).
  • Support academic approval processes including the committees of the Senate of TWU and ensure alignment with ATS accreditation standards.
  • Church and Denominational Engagement
  • Build and maintain partnerships with participating churches and denominations.
  • Recruit, train, and support ministry mentors involved in student formation.
  • Serve as a key liaison between TEDS and external ministry partners.
  • Teaching and Scholarly Contribution
  • Teach selected courses or modules related to pastoral formation or ministry practice, as assigned.
  • Contribute to scholarly and professional conversations related to pastoral formation and theological education, as appropriate to the role.
  • Assessment, Reporting, and Communication
  • Develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate student learning and program effectiveness.
  • Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to inform continuous improvement.
  • Prepare reports for institutional leadership and external funders.
  • Support internal and external communication through presentations, workshops, and written materials.

Working Conditions

  • Some evening and weekend work required for church engagement and program activities.
  • Travel required to partner churches, denominational meetings, and academic conferences.
