High School Math Tutor - 2026-2027 School Year

The Position

We are hiring a part-time High School Math Tutor to deliver 1-on-1 in-home tutoring in Washington, DC, Maryland, or Northern Virginia. Sessions are scheduled after school (weekdays, 4-10 PM) and on weekends.

While we are hiring for this position in June and July, the bulk of your teaching will begin in September or October and run through the end of the coming school year in May or June of 2027. Our academic tutors tend to work with students for the duration of the school year and provide long-term intensive weekly tutoring spanning from the fall to the spring.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver 90-minute private, in-home tutoring sessions for high school math through AP Calculus AB and/or BC in homes around the DMV.
• Create customized lesson plans to address individual student needs and learning goals.
• Maintain consistent, positive communication with parents and students to build trust and rapport.
• Collaborate with the Top Score team to track student progress and refine tutoring strategies.

Ideal Candidate

• Proven experience teaching or tutoring high school math. Experience with both AP Calculus courses (AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC) is strongly preferred.
• Current or former high school teachers or graduate students pursuing a Master’s/Ph.D. in Math are strongly preferred.
• Additional expertise in tutoring high school STEM subjects is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees or certifications in education/Math fields preferred.
• Passionate about building positive, supportive relationships with students and families.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, with strong time management and process adherence.
• Excellent communicator, responsive, and committed to collaborative teamwork.

Compensation & Benefits

• Competitive Pay: Starting at $50-$75/hour, with potential to earn up to $85/hour based on experience and tenure.

Logistical Requirements

• Flexible availability for evenings (4-10 PM weekdays) and weekends.
• Minimum commitment of 10 teaching hours per week (e.g., 1-2 weekday evenings and one weekend day).
• Reliable access to a car and willingness to travel up to 30 minutes for in-home sessions.
• Ability to pass a background check (required for working with students).
