Manager - Recruitment & Retention

The WE Store | Hospitality-Driven Cannabis Retail Across Southwestern Ontario

The Mission

We are looking for a hands-on Manager, Recruitment & Retention to help build, strengthen, and elevate our team across multiple retail locations. At The WE Store, great hiring is only the beginning. We need someone who can attract the right people, build strong onboarding and training systems, and create a culture that keeps high performers engaged for the long term.

This is not a desk-only HR role. You will be an active leader within the business, working closely with senior leadership and spending meaningful time in stores to understand team dynamics, support development, and reinforce a hospitality-first culture.

Key ResponsibilitiesTalent Acquisition & Recruitment

  • Lead the full recruitment lifecycle from role intake to offer and hire
  • Design and execute hiring strategies that reflect The WE Store’s culture and values
  • Source and attract hospitality-oriented, guest-centric candidates
  • Partner closely with senior leadership on staffing needs and hiring decisions
  • Build talent pipelines for current and future store growth

Training & Development

  • Build, manage, and improve onboarding and ongoing training programs
  • Coach and develop employees at different stages of their career progression
  • Support retraining and performance development where needed
  • Maintain structured training tools such as SOPs, manuals, assessments, and performance review frameworks
  • Champion the implementation and ongoing improvement of a digital Learning Management System (LMS)

Retention, Engagement & Culture

  • Develop and lead employee retention and engagement strategies
  • Act as a visible culture ambassador across all store locations
  • Help create a workplace where hospitality, learning, inclusion, and accountability thrive
  • Promote internal growth, cross-location collaboration, and role variety to keep teams engaged
  • Identify and address engagement and motivation challenges as teams mature in their roles

The Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of recruitment experience
  • Strong background in training, development, and retention strategy
  • Experience in retail, hospitality, or other customer-centric environments
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and coaching skills
  • Comfortable working with and leading a diverse workforce
  • Experience with digital HR systems, employee records tools, and learning platforms
  • Strong organizational skills and a collaborative, knowledge-based leadership style
  • A genuine connection to cannabis culture and belief in cannabis as a legitimate consumer product

Operational Details

  • Location: Southwestern Ontario, with regular travel between store locations as needed
  • Work Style: Approximately 50% in-store / 50% office-based
  • Schedule: Approximately 40 hours per week, with paid overtime as required
  • Availability: Must be available 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM at least 2–3 days per week, with flexibility based on business needs
  • Tools: HRIS platforms, Google Workspace, and LMS systems or similar learning tools

Compensation
