Job Description

Position Purpose:

The Marketing and Communications Specialist exists to support The Salvation Army’s mission by creating clear, compelling, and consistent communications that engage key audiences. The role contributes by developing marketing and communication assets such as written content, visual imagery, video, and design materials that promote programs, initiatives, and organizational priorities. Through creative development and storytelling, the position strengthens brand awareness, enhances outreach efforts, and helps ensure the organization’s message is effectively communicated across channels.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead integrated marketing efforts that strengthen and promote The Salvation Army’s public image across regional and local audiences.
  • Execute targeted media and asset distribution strategies to support ministry units and achieve defined marketing objectives.
  • Develop high‑quality written and visual content—including articles, scripts, reports, and promotional materials—that increases awareness and engagement.
  • Publish timely, accessible content across websites, social platforms, and digital channels in alignment with the editorial and content calendars.
  • Manage day‑to‑day social media operations to grow public support, respond to inquiries, and engage audiences before, during, and after campaigns and events.
  • Analyze social media performance, audience trends, and emerging technologies to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and reporting to leadership.
  • Coordinate image capture, interviews, influencers, and live event coverage to showcase impact, protect reputation, and expand reach.
  • Ensure all creative outputs meet brand standards, legal requirements, accessibility guidelines, and copyright and release obligations.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or other related discipline.
  • Three to five years related public relations/writing/communications/web/social media experience in an organizational setting, with previous non-profit experience an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of social media KPIs, best practices, and performance measurement to drive effective digital engagement.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple social media accounts creatively and accurately while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Demonstrated storytelling skills using a wide range of social media formats, tactics, and content types.
  • Solid understanding of SEO principles and web traffic metrics to support content visibility and reach.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem‑solving, and project coordination skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Advanced proficiency with digital tools and platforms including Microsoft Office, WordPress, Hootsuite, and reporting software, with the ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including strong command of English for print and online audiences.
  • Flexible, collaborative, and initiative‑driven professional willing to work outside regular hours, travel as required, and actively support The Salvation Army’s mission, vision, and values.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $58,531.20 to $73,174.40 with a maximum of $87,817.60.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
