Job Description
The Morning Context is hiring for a reporter to cover the companies and regulators reshaping how India moves, lends, and saves money. Players like PhonePe, Razorpay, Paytm, Groww, and the new wave of digital banks—alongside the RBI, NPCI, and SEBI—will define the next decade of India's financial infrastructure and shape how hundreds of millions transact.
Responsibilities
- Report and write deeply researched, long-form features on India's fintech sector, covering payments, digital lending, neobanks, wealthtech, and the broader financial-services landscape
- Track corporate strategy, regulatory developments, licensing regimes, and competitive dynamics across payment networks, lending platforms, brokerages, and financial conglomerates
- Cover the business impact of emerging models — UPI economics, account aggregators, embedded finance, digital credit, and the evolving role of banks versus platforms
- Break news and develop exclusive stories through a strong network of sources across companies, regulators, investors, and research institutions
- Synthesise complex financial and regulatory developments into accessible, authoritative journalism for a sophisticated business audience
Requirements
- 3–6 years of experience in business, financial, or technology journalism, with published long-form or investigative work
- Strong working knowledge of India's fintech and financial-services sector, and at least one of: payments, digital lending, capital markets, or banking regulation
- Ability to read regulatory filings, RBI/SEBI circulars, licensing documents, and financial disclosures
- Comfort engaging with technical and regulatory subject matter without losing sight of the human and business stakes
- Sharp, economical writing that makes complexity legible without flattening it
- Self-directed and able to manage a beat independently while meeting deadlines
Compensation
We offer competitive compensation. Our pay structure is designed to ensure that our people have the most cash in hand and not an inflated CTC tower. Our typical compensation offers are 20% above your last drawn cash in hand pay.
