Position: Nurses Aide
Status: Full-Time; 36 hours biweekly
Location: Positions are based in Windsor or Erie Shores; please indicate your location preference on application.
Reports to: Manager, Hospice Residence(s)
Start Date: June 2026

Founded to provide compassionate, clinical, end-of-life care, The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County Inc. (Hospice) has been caring for our community since 1979. Hospice believes in equitable access to care for all. We provide specialized wrap-around services to adults, children, and their caregivers, in the setting of their choice – whether it be in our Residences or in their home.
With only partial government funding, it has been through the generous support of our volunteers and our community that we have continued to provide memorable care, meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their loved ones.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Nurses Aide is dedicated to Hospice’s vision, mission, and values. They support and work towards achieving the strategic directions set out by the Board of Directors. They put their best efforts forward to promoting the interests of our patients as well as contributing to a positive work culture.
The Nurse’s Aide functions as a front-line team member, assisting with the care of residents and supporting the Manager of the Residence as required. Working in collaboration with RNs, RPNs, Personal Support Workers, volunteers, and hospice staff, the Nurse’s Aide contributes to maintaining the health, comfort, and well-being of patients.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist nurses (RN/RPN), Personal Support Workers, volunteers, and hospice staff in providing basic care to residents.
- Respond to patient call bells and communicate needs to appropriate staff.
- Support resident mobility, including assisting with movement and positioning.
- Monitor patient well-being and report any concerns or changes to senior staff.
- Alert staff in the event of an emergency.
- Communicate with patients’ families and caregivers as directed by professional staff.
- Assist the Manager of the Residence with tasks as required.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for residents.
- Participate in employee engagement initiatives and provide feedback to contribute to program development and quality improvement projects.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Accountable to the Manager, Hospice Residence(s).
- Accountable to the Director, Clinical Services and Informatics.
- Accountable for performing in adherence to the Hospice Mission, Vision and Values.
- Accountable for adhering to Hospice Policies, professional behaviour and for ensuring review of such as required.
- Accountable for adherence to HPCO and CARF accreditation standards.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Hourly pay: $22.66 per hour full-time.
- Pension: Hospice is a proud member of The Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP). Available for enrollment for all staff.
- Paid Time Off: Employees will receive their vacation pay at a rate of four (4) percent on each pay.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Valid Police Record Check including vulnerable sector check (within six months of hire, and declaration of offences as required).
- French language skills are an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment and follow directions from professional staff.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact respectfully with residents, families, and staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in accordance with organizational policies.
- TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Basic understanding of patient care practices and infection prevention and control.
- Ability to safely assist with mobility, transfers, and activities of daily living.
- Ability to recognize and report changes in resident conditions to appropriate staff.
- Basic computer skills for communication and documentation, as required.
- EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled in a nursing program.
