Title: Policy Advisor, China and the Indo-Pacific
Reports to: Director, Asian Studies Center
Job Summary: The Policy Advisor, China and the Indo-Pacific is responsible for informing policy positions and creating a high-profile, national, and international reputation for The Heritage Foundation related to the China challenge and U.S. strategy in the Indo-Pacific. The Policy Advisor engages in research, crafts model legislation, understands the legislative process on Capitol Hill, and provides policy guidance on China and other geopolitical and national security issues in the Indo-Pacific. This position collaborates with other team members to produce publications, participate in education programs, and act as a spokesperson for in public events, briefings, and media interviews.
Job Duties:
- Develop innovative legislative policy solutions and craft model legislation.
- Reviews and proposes legislative solutions at the state level.
- Conduct timely, rigorous policy analysis and research, producing high-quality papers.
- Speak at major public functions and at professional conferences.
- Provide expert testimony before Congress.
- Maintain a high profile in the media and a leadership position in the public policy community and on Capitol Hill.
- Organize meetings and events to promote Heritage policy positions.
- Build and maintain national and international coalitions.
- Advise management on programs which keep Heritage in a leadership role within the conservative movement on Chinese and Indo-Pacific Policy.
Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree preferred in a relevant discipline
Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience working on Capitol Hill; experience working on China and Indo-Pacific policy portfolio preferred
Communications: Excellent writer and public speaker; able to communicate policy advocacy position, working fluency in an Asian language preferred
Technology: Microsoft Suite

The salary range for this role is $105,000 - $130,000 annually. This range is a good-faith estimate, and the final salary offered to a selected candidate depends on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, and other qualifications; internal and external market pay for comparable jobs; and level of hire based on aforementioned qualifications.
