Community Outreach Specialist (Social Media Focus)

Location: Hybrid (Virtual & In-Person [on a needs only basis])

Position Type and pay: Part-Time (15h/week), 18$/H

Reports To: Executive Director / Leadership Team

About The Halifax Helpers

The Halifax Helpers (THH) is a youth-led nonprofit dedicated to providing free virtual academic support to K–12 students.

Position Overview

The Community Outreach Specialist plays a central role in expanding THH’s reach and strengthening its brand presence. This role blends creativity, relationship-building, and strategic outreach. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, comfortable on camera, and passionate about youth-led social impact.

Key Responsibilities

1. Social Media & Branding (30%)

  • Film and edit engaging video content for THH social media platforms
  • Confidently appear on camera to explain topics and comfortable conducting interviews with students, volunteers, and partners
  • Develop creative content ideas aligned with THH’s mission and growth strategy
  • Manage the publishing of monthly blog posts written by volunteers, students, and partners
  • Support website updates and light edits to maintain brand clarity and relevance
  • Ensure brand consistency across platforms

Ideal Skills:

Video editing (e.g., CapCut, Canva, Adobe Premiere), storytelling, interviewing, visual branding, comfort with public-facing roles.

2. Virtual Outreach & Partnerships (30%)

  • Conduct strategic social media outreach to potential service users (e.g facebook group posting)
  • Draft and send partnership outreach emails to schools, community organizations, and youth groups
  • Maintain active communication with existing partners
  • Develop and distribute a recurring newsletter to keep partners engaged and informed
  • Track outreach efforts and partnership engagement

Ideal Skills:

Professional communication, persuasive writing, relationship management, organization, CRM/database familiarity (an asset).

3. In-Person Outreach (20%)

  • Find and represent THH at community events, fairs, and information booths
  • Deliver clear and engaging explanations of THH’s mission and programs
  • Network with educators, families, students, and community leaders
  • Identify and pursue new local partnership opportunities

Ideal Skills:

Public speaking, confidence, networking, professionalism.

4. Administrative Support (20%)

  • Support internal coordination and documentation
  • Assist with scheduling, record-keeping, and program tracking
  • Contribute to general organizational development tasks as needed

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable on camera and interviewing others
  • Experience with social media content creation and video editing
  • Highly organized and self-motivated
  • Passion for education equity and youth empowerment
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Assets:

  • Previous nonprofit or youth leadership experience
  • Website editing experience (e.g., Wix, Squarespace, WordPress)
  • Graphic design experience
