Job Title: Remote Copywriter & Content Strategist

Company: The First Sip Coffee & Pastries

Location: Leduc, Alberta (Fully Remote — Alberta-based candidates preferred)

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Salary: $70,000 - $80,000 CAD annually

Why This Role is Unique

We are offering a true remote, above-average salary position for a writer who wants to own the narrative of a beloved local brand. This isn’t a generic content mill job. You will become the voice of The First Sip Coffee & Pastries, shaping how our community and beyond discover, connect with, and advocate for our café. Your work will directly drive foot traffic, local SEO dominance, and brand loyalty—all from the comfort of your home office.

About Us

More than coffee and pastries, we’ve been the place where first dates happen, entrepreneurs launch dreams, and neighbors catch up. We source ethically, bake with love, and believe a café should be a cornerstone of community life. Now, we’re expanding our digital footprint and need a strategic writer to ensure our online presence is as warm, authentic, and compelling as our in-person experience.

Your Mission

As our Remote Copywriter & Content Strategist, you will develop and execute a content strategy that positions The First Sip Coffee & Pastries as the cultural and culinary destination in Leduc and central Alberta. You will write to engage, inform, and inspire—turning readers into regulars and locals into brand ambassadors.

Strategy & SEO:

Develop quarterly content strategies tied to business goals (seasonal menus, events, community partnerships).

Lead local SEO efforts through blog content, Google Business Profile optimization, and location-specific keyword targeting.

Analyze performance (Google Analytics, social insights, email metrics) and pivot strategy based on data.

Premium Content Creation:

Write 10-12 long-form, SEO-optimized blog posts monthly (800-1,500 words) on topics like coffee science, pastry craftsmanship, Leduc history, and community spotlights.

Craft all website copy—from menu descriptions that make mouths water to an “About Us” that tells our story.

Author high-converting email newsletters (weekly/bi-weekly) with compelling narratives and offers.

Write platform-specific social captions (Instagram, Facebook) that drive engagement and align with visual content.

Develop scripts for short-form video (Reels/TikTok) and podcast/audio snippets.

Create press releases and media pitches for Alberta-based publications.

Community & Collaboration (Remote):

Serve as our remote community journalist. Conduct virtual/phon interviews with our team, local suppliers (e.g., Leduc farmers, roasters), and loyal customers.

Collaborate virtually with our on-site manager, baristas, and any external marketing/video partners.

Propose and manage guest blogger relationships with local Leduc/Edmonton influencers and writers.

The Ideal Candidate (You Are)

A strategic storyteller with 1+ years of professional copywriting/content creation experience, preferably in food & beverage, hospitality, or local business.

Portfolio Required: Must show long-form blog content, website copy, and email campaigns that demonstrate range, SEO knowledge, and ability to build brand voice.

SEO Proficient: Hands-on experience with keyword research, on-page optimization, and understanding of local pack/Google Business Profile impact.

Community-Minded: You understand that for a local business, local is everything. You can write for Leduc residents like you’re one of them. (Knowledge of Leduc/central Alberta is a significant advantage).

Self-Driven & Communicative: Thrive in a remote setting with minimal supervision but proactive in updates and collaboration. Excellent written and verbal communication.

Results-Oriented: Can point to past work that increased web traffic, engagement, or conversions. Comfortable with data.

Nice-to-Haves:

Personal or professional connection to coffee culture or artisan food.

Basic familiarity with WordPress, Google Analytics, and SEO tools (Ahrefs, SEMrush, Moz).

Experience with a small business or startup environment—wearing multiple hats is expected.

Why This is an Above-Average Offer

Salary: $70,000 - $80,000 CAD — This is 20-30% above the average market rate for similar copywriter roles in the Leduc/Edmonton region, reflecting our commitment to top-tier, strategic talent.

Performance Bonus: Up to 15% annual bonus based on achieving agreed-upon KPIs (e.g., blog traffic growth, email open/click rates, local ranking improvements).

Remote Work Stipend: $500/year for home office setup, high-speed internet, or co-working space access.

"Taste & Explore" Fund: $200/month to enjoy our café (or send to friends/family) and explore other local Leduc businesses for inspiration.

Flexible PTO: 4 weeks vacation + 5 personal days + your birthday off.

Professional Development: $1,500/year budget for courses, conferences, or books.

Impact & Autonomy: You will be the lead content voice. Your ideas will be heard, tested, and implemented. See your work directly influence a thriving local business.

The Remote Work Reality

You must be prepared to travel to Ledu 2–4 times a year to participate in team workshops, photo shoots, or public events.

You will need a dedicated, quiet workspace and reliable high-speed internet.

Core collaboration hours will be 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM MT for team syncs, but schedule flexibility is respected.
