Job Summary
The Lab Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the effective functioning of the Science Laboratory by preparing laboratory resources, maintaining equipment, ensuring adherence to safety standards, and assisting teachers during practical sessions. The role requires an organized and proactive individual who can contribute to creating a safe, engaging, and efficient learning environment for students.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations
- Prepare laboratory apparatus, chemicals, specimens, and materials required for practical sessions.
- Assist teachers in conducting laboratory experiments, demonstrations, and practical examinations.
- Ensure laboratories are organized, clean, and ready before every practical session.
- Support students in the proper use and handling of laboratory equipment.
Equipment & Inventory Management
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure its proper functioning.
- Conduct routine inspections and report damaged or malfunctioning equipment.
- Maintain inventory records of chemicals, consumables, and laboratory resources.
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate replenishment requirements.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to laboratory safety protocols and school guidelines.
- Maintain safety equipment, first-aid kits, and emergency response materials.
- Ensure proper storage, labelling, and disposal of chemicals and laboratory materials.
- Assist in conducting regular safety audits and inspections.
Academic & Event Support
- Assist in project-based learning activities, science exhibitions, and STEM initiatives.
- Support teachers during practical assessments and laboratory-based activities.
- Help set up laboratory resources for academic events and competitions.
Documentation
- Maintain laboratory registers, issue-return logs, stock records, and maintenance reports.
- Prepare records and documentation required for audits, inspections, and accreditation processes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree (B.Sc.) in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Life Sciences, or a related Science discipline.
- Freshers are encouraged to apply.
- 0–2 years of relevant experience in a laboratory, educational institution, research facility, or related environment preferred.
- Diploma or certification in Laboratory Technology will be an added advantage.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment handling, and safety practices.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and basic computer operations.
