Tarbiyah Academy | Full-Time | In-Person
Reports to: Head of Middle School
Tarbiyah Academy is seeking a skilled, reflective, and mission-aligned Middle School English Language Arts Teacher to teach Grades 6–8 within the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework.
The Middle School ELA Teacher is responsible for delivering a rigorous, inquiry-based literacy curriculum that develops students’ analytical thinking, writing fluency, research skills, and love of literature. This role requires an educator who understands the developmental needs of adolescents and can create a classroom environment that is intellectually challenging, emotionally safe, and spiritually grounded.

Instructional Excellence & Academic Rigor
The Middle School ELA Teacher is expected to:
- Deliver high-quality English Language Arts instruction aligned with MYP standards and inquiry-based learning
- Teach literature, composition, grammar, vocabulary, and research skills across Grades 6–8
- Design engaging units that develop critical thinking, analytical writing, and effective communication
- Integrate interdisciplinary connections where appropriate
- Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and differentiate for diverse learners
- Provide timely, meaningful feedback that strengthens students’ writing and analytical skills
- Support students in becoming independent readers, writers, and thinkers
- Incorporate Islamic worldview perspectives thoughtfully where appropriate in literature discussions
Classroom Culture & Adolescent Development
- Create a structured, respectful, and intellectually engaging classroom environment
- Support students’ social-emotional development and emerging identity formation
- Establish clear academic and behavioral expectations
- Address classroom challenges with calmness, consistency, and fairness
- Encourage student voice, discussion, and reflective thinking
Writing, Feedback & Assessment
- Guide students through the writing process, including drafting, revising, editing, and publishing
- Teach argumentation, literary analysis, narrative writing, and research-based writing
- Prepare students for high-level analytical thinking in upper secondary education
- Maintain accurate records of student progress
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure vertical alignment in literacy progression
Family Partnership & Communication
- Build strong relationships with families through proactive and transparent communication
- Participate in three-way conferences and student-led conferences
- Provide clear and informative progress reports
- Partner with parents to support student growth academically and socially
Professional Collaboration & Growth
- Actively participate in collaborative planning and professional learning communities
- Engage in IB professional development and ongoing teacher growth
- Contribute to accreditation and authorization processes
- Seek continuous improvement in instructional practice and technology integration
- Offer at least one extracurricular activity per week
- Participate in school events, field trips, and co-curricular responsibilities

Salary Determination
Salary placement is determined by full-time teaching experience, state certification status, and highest degree earned (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate).
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education (or related field) from an accredited U.S. university
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Strong command of written and spoken English
Preferred
- State certification
- Master’s degree
- Experience in IB Middle Years Programme
- Experience in independent or Islamic schools
