Job Summary

The Computer Lab Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the university's computer laboratories. The role involves providing technical support to students and faculty, ensuring that computer systems and peripherals are functional, maintaining software and hardware, and supporting laboratory sessions and examinations.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and monitor all computer systems, peripherals, and networking equipment in the computer labs.
• Install, configure, update, and troubleshoot operating systems, application software, and antivirus programs.
• Assist faculty during practical classes, workshops, online assessments, and laboratory sessions.
• Provide first-level technical support to students and staff for hardware and software-related issues.
• Ensure the proper functioning of printers, scanners, projectors, and other laboratory equipment.
• Maintain internet and network connectivity within the laboratory and coordinate with the IT department for major issues.
• Perform regular system backups, updates, and preventive maintenance.
• Maintain inventory of computers, accessories, software licenses, and laboratory consumables.
• Record and report equipment faults, repairs, and maintenance activities.
• Ensure compliance with university IT policies, cybersecurity practices, and software licensing requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness, security, and discipline within the computer laboratory.
• Assist in setting up systems for examinations, seminars, workshops, and special events.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department or university administration.

Required Qualifications

• Must have Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Applications, or a related discipline. (B.Tech /B.E/MCA)
• Must have Masters Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Applications, or a related discipline. (M.Tech /M.E/MCA)
• Relevant certifications (such as hardware, networking, or operating systems) will be an added advantage.

Experience

• 13 years of experience in computer laboratory management, IT support, or desktop support.
• Fresh graduates with relevant technical knowledge may also be considered.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
• Basic networking and internet troubleshooting skills.
• Hardware installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, educational software, and antivirus tools.
• Understanding of LAN, printers, scanners, and other peripheral devices.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with computer lab management software.
• Knowledge of cloud-based applications and learning management systems.
• Basic understanding of server administration and cybersecurity practices.

Working Conditions

• Full-time position.
• May require working during weekends or extended hours during examinations, admissions, or university events.
