Role Description
This is a remote, contract role for an Avionics Specialist. The Avionics Specialist will contribute to the design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting of avionics systems across aerospace and unmanned platforms.
Day-to-day responsibilities include interpreting wiring diagrams and schematics, validating system interfaces, supporting integration of embedded avionics hardware, and working with sensor-fusion and control systems. The role involves close collaboration with engineering teams to define requirements, document system behavior, and support debugging and root-cause analysis of hardware and integration issues.

Compensation is contract-based and will vary depending on scope of work and level of experience. Pay structure, responsibilities, and any additional benefits will be defined during the contracting process and adjusted based on demonstrated technical ability and prior experience. Higher levels of experience and impact may qualify for expanded compensation and additional benefits. That said, SWORT is open to all engineering levels as long as person is willing to learn and commit time to the company
Minimum Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with PCB design, schematic capture, and hardware bring-up
- Strong understanding of embedded electronics, sensors, and power systems
- Experience with microcontrollers (STM32, ESP32, ARM-based systems, or similar)
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware and electrical integration issues in real systems
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, or Ethernet
- Ability to independently solve complex technical problems and validate hardware behavior
- Strong communication skills for remote engineering collaboration
- Experience with structured testing, debugging, and root-cause analysis
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
The following experience is a strong plus but not required:
- Experience with avionics systems, aerospace electronics, or UAV platforms
- Familiarity with ArduPilot, PX4, INAV, or MAVLink-based systems
- Experience with KiCad, Altium Designer, or similar PCB design tools
- Knowledge of GPS, IMUs, telemetry systems, cameras, and payload integration
- Understanding of sensor fusion, navigation, and autonomous systems concepts
- Exposure to aerospace standards (DO-178, DO-254, DO-160, or similar)
- Experience with flight testing, environmental testing, or system validation
- Background in aerospace, robotics, defense, or autonomous systems
