Role
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing aspects of daily production operations through personal interaction with plant employees, Lead hands and Supervisors ensuring production process run smoothly and efficiently and that floor response to immediate problems as well as it is handled in a timely, constructive manner. They delegate authority to key supervisors in production, manage all functions involved and direct and coordinate operations for the processing plant.
They will assist the Plant Manager in managing and overseeing plant activities to maximize the safety, continuous improvement, quality, food safety, and productivity of our plant. They will promote a healthy work culture ensuring plant and employee safety and health as priority.
Responsibilities
- Interact regularly with Production, Maintenance, Finance, Sanitation and Quality Control/Assurance, OH&S and HR Managers, utilizing daily manufacturing reports that capture manufacturing performance
- Reviews, and monitors and reports on production key performance indicators, identified trends and makes recommendations to enhance productivity
- Assists in directing the production planning and scheduling process by evaluating projected sales volumes, inventory requirements, and raw product availability, and ensures adequate supplies are on – hand to achieve production plan
- Provide timely update to sale if there is any disruption for the upcoming orders
- Provide regular coaching, guidance and direction to production teams, meeting at least weekly/bi-weekly for one on one individual and departmental performance reviews
- Monitors inventory levels for both Raw and Frozen products
- Control departmental operating costs ensuring all product orders are produced on time with no shortfall in quality or quantity
- Guides and assists subordinates in solving production problems and ensures high standards are adhered to for general maintenance, safety, and preventative maintenance
- Ensures a safe work environment is always maintained
- Develop and maintains a work environment that ensures positive employee relations, flexibility, and quick response to issues
- Recommends any changes in policies and procedures with a focus on continuous improvement and ensure HACCP, CFIA, GMP, BRC and all audit requirements are achieved and routinely adhered to
- Foster and maintain a positive labour relations environment by ensuring that all employees are treated with respect, grievances or concerns are dealt with in a timely manner and employees are communicated with in an open manner
Requirements
- Post-secondary diploma and/or degree (e.g., management studies, business) preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Computer skills including word & excel
- Demonstrated high leadership qualities in leading a business and team, must have ability to motivate employees to keep operations running smoothly
- Knowledge of safety systems and processes
- Ability to identify opportunities and follow through on the execution and improvement
- Problem-solving, must be able to quickly ascertain a situation and be decisive in solving it, such as identifying defects in a production line
- Time Management, ability to face production deadlines, shipping dates and more, must manage time accordingly
- Previous experience in a manufacturing/plant environment
- Flexible to work on different shift if required or needed

- Strong critical thinking and communication skills (written and verbal) to share ideas and influence others, including senior management team
- Coach supervisors and front-line staff to enhance performance and to develop and retain high-potential employees of the future
- Create a high performing team with clear direction and realistic but challenging goals
