Role Overview:
The Developmental Geologist will play a key role in supporting acquisition and divestiture opportunities, basin wide scoping activities, and ensuring the quality of the firm's subsurface geological data. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with a passion for geology, subsurface modeling, and reservoir development, along with the skills to work effectively in a distributed work environment. The successful candidate will work closely with other geologists, petrophysicists, and reservoir engineers to help the firm meet its goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Geological Interpretation and Mapping: Utilize subsurface data, such as well logs, seismic, and core data, to generate geological interpretations, create reservoir models, and support strategic drilling initiatives.
- Quality Control of Subsurface Data: Conduct quality control checks on well log, core, and seismic data to ensure data integrity and accuracy before integrating it into geological models.
- Subsurface Data Integration: Incorporate well logs, core data, and petrophysical analysis into geological models to enhance reservoir understanding and make informed recommendations on development and A&D strategies.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare and maintain comprehensive reports, maps, and cross-sections that communicate geological interpretations and field development strategies to key stakeholders.
- Database Management: Help manage geological databases, ensuring that subsurface data is accurately loaded, stored, and maintained for effective utilization by the team.
- Collaborative Team Efforts: Collaborate closely with geologists, petrophysicists, and reservoir engineers to understand reservoir complexities and identify optimal development opportunities.
- Utilize Software Tools: Leverage geological software such as Kingdom, or similar platforms to create geological models, cross-sections, and reservoir characterizations. Basic proficiency in SQL, Python, and Spotfire is desirable for data retrieval and manipulation.
- Automation and Efficiency Improvements: Utilize Python or similar tools to automate routine data management and analysis tasks, enhancing team efficiency.
- Generate Data Visualizations: Develop visual representations of subsurface data, such as maps, cross-sections, and reservoir models, using tools like Petrel, Kingdom, or Python libraries to support data-driven decision-making.
Requirements:
- Fluent in English.
- Bachelor's degree in Geology or a related field
- Proven experience in geological interpretation, mapping, and field development within the oil and gas industry.
- Preference for U.S. lower-48 experience
- Proficiency in geological interpretation software and data management.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
- Familiarity with basic Python for data analysis is a plus.
- 1-10 years experience working as a Geologist preferred.
