Description of Work
Tidewater Research Station is hiring an Agricultural Technician II to support work in an agricultural environment, primarily working within our Livestock Unit. The employee will work directly with other station staff and project leaders to assist with animal agriculture research projects, feeding, animal husbandry, as well as general maintenance of equipment and facilities. This position will require some rotating shift, weekend, holiday, and overtime work depending on station needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Tasks related to beef and swine livestock production such as feeding and general care of animals.
- Tasks related to pasture management and forage production.
- Maintaining accurate records of all animal data.
- Maintain and repair equipment and facilities as needed.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Recruitment Range: $31,200 - $49,000
- General knowledge of livestock production.
- General understanding of crop production and pasture management.
- Ability to maintain equipment that is commonly used in a livestock setting.
- Ability to collect and record data accurately.
- Ability to operate and maintain tractors, mowers, and associated farm equipment.
Must possess the following at the time of application or qualify for certification within twelve months of employment:
- Valid driver's license
- Medical clearance to wear a half mask or full-face respirator with cartridges.
- Forklift driver certification issued by the Research Division.
