Introduction

The Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is\r\na diverse, bilingual community who in partnership with families, provides an\r\nequitable and exemplary education in a nurturing, engaging and challenging\r\nenvironment to insure our students achieve personal excellence and become\r\nlifelong learners. LOCATION OF POSITION

Maryland School for the Deaf – Frederick Campus\r\n\r\n\r\n101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD 21701\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

The purpose of this position is to organize\r\nand foster a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the\r\nneeds of all students, staff and parents. This includes such responsibilities\r\nas: leading, directing, counseling, and supervising a variety of personnel and\r\nprograms; creating effective parent, teacher, child communications; supporting,\r\nencouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between\r\nteachers and among staff and parents; and managing budget items. \r\n

POSITION DUTIES

\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Maintain an environment that is physically and\r\n emotionally safe for students and staff.\r\n Implement and maintain practices that foster high\r\n expectations for learning.\r\n Maintain consistent discipline within the school.\r\n Assist\r\n in the hiring and orientation of new faculty.\r\n Observe\r\n and evaluate staff.\r\n Plan\r\n and direct meetings, staff development, training and in-service events.\r\n Coordinate,\r\n plan, implement, and evaluate the professional development of assigned\r\n personnel.\r\n Assist\r\n in orientation; counseling; discipline; due process; data gathering; student\r\n recognition; and securing student services with outside agencies.\r\n Monitor IEP implementation so in each class student’s needs are\r\n met and students’ goals are achieved.\r\n Assist\r\n teachers in formulating appropriate educational objectives, strategies and\r\n activities including review of IEPs and weekly unit and lesson plans.\r\n Track student progress and support struggling\r\n students and staff.\r\n Assist in the creation and improvement of the\r\n school’s master schedule.\r\n Manage state and local standardized testing to ensure\r\n compliance with established processes and policies.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master’s degree in Education of Deaf\r\nstudents, Education of Deaf students with additional disabilities or Special\r\nEducation required. \r\n \r\nExperience: Three years of successful classroom teaching\r\nexperience with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students required. Must be\r\nfluent in American Sign Language and written English. \r\n \r\n\r\n\r\nSuperior interpersonal and active\r\nlistening skills required.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Attentive to details and service oriented with\r\ngood planning and organizing skills\r\nSkilled in identifying\r\nproblems and brainstorming potential solutions and able to work both\r\nindependently and collaboratively.\r\n \r\n

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

\r\n\r\nMust hold or be eligible to obtain the\r\nMaryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Administrator I certification in\r\nthe required timeframe. \r\n\r\n
