This is a 12-month\r\nposition in the maintenance department of the Maryland School for the Deaf\r\n– Frederick Campus. POSITION DUTIES
Provide full\r\nperformance level of plumbing work by repairing, installing, and maintaining\r\nplumbing systems, pipes, and other plumbing fixtures at the Maryland School for\r\nthe Deaf, Columbia Campus to maintain the school's productivity and a safe\r\ncampus environment.\r\n \r\nInstall, repair, and\r\nmaintain plumbing systems, equipment, and fixtures for water, heating, air\r\nconditioning, and drainage systems;\r\n \r\nPerform regularly\r\nscheduled maintenance services and minor repairs to building equipment items to\r\ninclude boilers, hydraulic heating systems, refrigeration equipment, cooling\r\ntowers, and ice chillers;\r\n \r\nFill pipe system with\r\nwater, observe pressure gauges attached to pipes and adjust control valves to\r\nproduce desired pressure;\r\n \r\nInstall, make plumbing\r\nrepairs to, and maintain appliances such as sinks, water heaters, washing\r\nmachines, sterilizers, dish washers, ice machines, and water coolers;\r\n \r\nRepair and maintain plumbing\r\nby replacing washers in leaking faucets, replacing broken pipes, opening\r\nclogged drains, and underground sewer lines;\r\n \r\nMeasure, cut, thread,\r\nand replace pipes, control valves, and couplings using wrenches, pipe cutters,\r\nand pipe-threading tools;\r\n \r\nCover pipes with\r\ninsulating materials or protective coatings to reduce loss of heat and to\r\nprevent moisture condensation and corrosion;\r\n \r\nReview work orders to\r\nestimate time, materials ,and equipment required to complete work project;\r\n \r\nPerform other duties\r\nas assigned including snow removal when necessary to keep the campus\r\noperational.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of the Eighth grade.\r\n \r\nExperience: Two years experience as a journeyman\r\nplumber, one year of which includes installing and repairing sanitary plumbing\r\nappliances.\r\n \r\n\r\n\r\nNote: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces\r\nmilitary service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair\r\nclassifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in the plumbing\r\nfield of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n
LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION
Must be willing to learn American Sign Language.\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Candidates for this\r\nclassification must possess a Maryland Journeyman/Gas Fitter License.\r\n \r\n\r\n\r\nEmployees appointed to\r\npositions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the\r\noperation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be\r\nrequired to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of\r\nMaryland.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Work involves special\r\nphysical demands such as lifting/pushing 50 pounds or more and climbing\r\nladders. Must be able to sit, squat, or stand for long periods of time.\r\n \r\nNew hires are subject\r\nto a criminal background investigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code,\r\nFamily Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568).\r\n
