POSITION DUTIES
The Inmate Affairs Specialist is responsible for\r\ninmate correspondence and inquiries on behalf of the: Governor; Secretary,\r\nDeputy Secretary for Operations, Deputy Secretary for Administration;\r\nCommissioner of Correction, Commissioner of Pretrial Detention and Services;\r\nDeputy Commissioner of Correction, Deputy Commissioner of Pretrial and Detention\r\nServices; Assistant Commissioners of Correction; elected officials; and interdepartmental\r\nand outside agencies, as it related to those in custody in Maryland state correctional\r\nfacilities.\r\n \r\nThis position's primary focus will be to conduct\r\nresearch, draft correspondence, letters, and/or other written materials. Strong\r\nwriting, editing and organizational skills are necessary. This position will\r\nreceive a large volume of constituent correspondence on a wide range of\r\ndepartmental issues.\r\n \r\nThis position will primarily handle complaints\r\nand concerns from inmates, inmate’s families and other constituents concerning\r\nconditions of confinement. The incumbent will also be responsible for providing\r\nand monitoring confidential case data on complaints that support program\r\nimprovement needs.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation\r\nfrom an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency\r\ncertificate.\r\nExperience: Three years of\r\nadministrative staff or professional work.\r\nNotes:\r\n1. Candidates may substitute 30\r\ncollege credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up\r\nto two years of the required experience. \r\n2. Candidates may substitute the\r\npossession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university for\r\nthe required experience.\r\n\r\n3. Candidates may\r\nsubstitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned\r\nofficer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent\r\njudgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative\r\nplans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or\r\nprocedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for\r\nthe required experience. \r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\n\r\n Experience providing direct support to a\r\n Director and or executive leadership. \r\n Experience reviewing,\r\n tracking, and responding to inquiries from Incarcerated Individuals and their\r\n families.\r\n\r\n\r\n

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland. \r\n
