Spring-Ford Area School District is actively recruiting a Elementary School Counselor. The School Counsleor assists students to understand themselves, to achieve to their capacity, and to make appropriate decisions through personal, educational and guidance services. The School Counselor provides individual and group activities appropriate to each developmental level and act as a resource person to staff and parents.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • SUPPORTING STUDENTS
  • Provides -Tier 2 or Tier 3 interventions for children experiencing difficulty coping with school or family related problems or personal/social/emotional needs.
  • Counsel at strategic intervals with students who are having academic problems.
  • Arranges to connect with each assigned student at least once during the school year.
  • Plan toward, and implement, procedures which will increase the number and effectiveness of individual student contacts by effective use of group counseling procedures and techniques - in both complimentary and supplementary relationship to individual student contacts.
  • Refers students to in-District support sources and outside agencies.
  • Works with Multi-Tiered System of Supports framework to ascertain that parents of students who have been systematically identified as having academic problems are informed concerning the problems and that they are invited to cooperate with the student, the counselor, and the school toward a solution to the problem(s).
  • Develop and facilitate classroom guidance lessons covering American School Counselor Association and Pennsylvania Career Education and Work standards.
  • Communicates the needs of individual students to appropriate professional personnel, when those needs become apparent.
  • Works with the District social worker to identify truant' students then create and monitor an Attendance Improvement Plan in accordance with the district's Attendance Policy
  • Oversee student Section 504 Plans and 504 Evaluation Process including scheduling meetings, developing accommodations, and distributing plan information
  • Administer specific screening tools to students
  • SUPPORTING STAFF
  • Establishes and maintains effective liaison relationships with community agency resources.
  • Meets periodically with administration and staff to improve intra-building communication concerning general understanding and awareness of the student's needs, student characteristics, and the central place of those factors in all professional planning.
  • Cooperates toward and initiates action within faculty and administration for awareness of academic and personal/social needs of individual students.
  • Plans for, and conducts, small group and large group staff meetings upon the topics of interest and/or importance.
  • Initiates meetings with the building administration and makes recommendations toward the resolution of student/school problems.
  • Cooperates with building administration as it plans and conducts student orientation programs.
  • Alerts the professional staff to the need for, and preparation for, identification of students who have educational, emotional, or social problems - or who appear to be inclined toward such problems.
  • SUPPORTING PARENTS
  • Establishes and maintains parental awareness of the function of a school counselor, its place, and its importance by periodic and continuing use of newsletters, brochures, and other communication techniques.
  • Plans for, and conducts, small group and large group parent meetings upon the topics of interest and/or importance.
  • Maintain a list of community resources for mental health, financial, therapeutic, or other supports and provide this list to parents as is necessary
  • Maintain open communication with parents regarding their child's academic, social, and emotional growth
  • SYSTEM SUPPORT
  • Works as a member of a school team to do crisis intervention when an emergency situation arises.
  • Assure that a system of student personal and educational records is maintained and updated periodically.
  • Coordinate the maintenance and growth of a library of student guidance information and materials; personal, social, occupational, and educational.
  • Coordinates with administration and staff to develop building-wide pro-social and resiliency programming
  • Attend periodic Department Meetings
  • Attend district in-service events
  • Consult with school psychologists, MTSS Coordinators, and other service providers on information relevant to supporting students.
  • Provide school psychologists, MTSS coordinators, and other service providers with summaries of supports and interventions facilitated by the school counselor to use in evaluations, reports, and parent meetings

Certification:

Must have a valid and active PA School Counselor K-12 Educational Specialist Certificate.

Available: This position starts for the 2026-2027 School Year on August 18, 2026.

Compensation

Spring-Ford Area School District offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision and prescription insurance, as well as paid time off and a tuition reimbursement program.

Salary is based on the salary matrix from the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

All external candidates will need to submit valid Act 34, Act 151, and Act 114 clearances dated less than 1 year old as of the start of employment.
