Position Overview

The Second Class Mining Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the safe, systematic, scientific, and economically efficient operation of opencast sand mining activities in compliance with applicable statutory and environmental regulations.

The role involves supervision of mining operations, drilling and blasting, HEMM deployment, mine safety practices, statutory compliance, production planning, and workforce management while maintaining productivity, safety, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day opencast sand mining operations.
• Ensure compliance with:
• Mines Act
• Metalliferous Mines Regulations (MMR)
• DGMS guidelines
• Environmental clearance conditions
• Other applicable statutory provisions
• Monitor drilling and blasting activities safely and efficiently.
• Coordinate deployment and utilization of Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM).
• Implement mine safety procedures and hazard control measures.
• Maintain statutory records, reports, and inspection registers.
• Assist in production planning and achievement of production targets.
• Supervise mine workers, operators, and contractors.
• Conduct workplace safety inspections and toolbox talks.
• Ensure environmentally sustainable mining practices.
• Coordinate with mine management and government authorities during inspections.

Qualification RequirementsEssential Educational Qualification

• Diploma in Mining Engineering from a recognized institution/university
• OR
• Degree in Mining Engineering from an AICTE/UGC-approved university.Mandatory Statutory Qualification
• Valid Second Class Manager’s Certificate of Competency (Restricted/Unrestricted) under Metalliferous Mines Regulations, 1961 issued by the Directorate General of Mines Safety.

Experience RequirementsFor Diploma Holders

• Minimum 3–5 years of practical experience in metalliferous opencast mines.
• Preference for candidates with experience in:
• Sand mining
• Granite mining
• Stone quarry operations

Desired Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of opencast mining methods
• Practical exposure to drilling & blasting operations
• Knowledge of mine safety and DGMS compliance
• HEMM operational coordination skills
• Leadership and manpower management
• Production monitoring and reporting
• Ability to work in remote mining environments
• Good communication and documentation skills

Preferred Candidate Profile

• Possession of a valid DGMS competency certificate
• Experience in handling statutory inspections
• Familiarity with environmental and safety audits
• Ability to achieve production targets under safe operating conditions
