IT SYSTEMS ENGINEER, LAUNCH
SpaceX is looking a talented IT Systems Engineer to innovate and enhance our multi-site, mission-critical launch infrastructure. This role is essential for enabling safe, reliable, and sustained launch operations - directly advancing our mission to make humanity multiplanetary. We're looking for someone who excels at designing and supporting high-stakes systems with grit, simplicity, and customer-focused tenacity.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Optimize and consolidate existing automation scripts and tooling used to simultaneously support multiple classes of launch vehicles.
- Provide advanced support for Linux and Windows administration and troubleshooting.
- Increase mission critical IT infrastructure maturity with focus on alignment with NIST cybersecurity frameworks.
- Integrate industry-standard DevOps tooling and processes with existing procedures to streamline launch support infrastructure deployment and refresh.
- Collaborate with software and controls teams to integrate IT infrastructure build and configuration processes into standardized systems deployment and verification pipelines.
- Provide real-time IT support during launch and test operations, troubleshooting networking, hardware, and software issues in potentially high stress, time sensitive situations.
- Enhance network monitoring capabilities by identifying operational blind-spots, solving them with custom scripting, filtering, and efficient dashboards.
- Research and implement new virtualization, storage, and networking technologies in development environments for potential adoption.
- Maintain and enhance detailed IT system CMDBs, procedures, and contingency plans.
- Support rapid infrastructure expansion, providing design guidance, topology diagrams, and project coordination.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, math, physics, information systems, or other engineering discipline of and 3+ years of systems engineering experience; OR 5+ years of systems engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
- Experience with virtualization or containerization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, Docker, or Openshift).
- Experience with Active Directory and multi-platform authentication/identification environments.
- Working knowledge of GitOps concepts, tools, and processes.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with Linux and Windows server administration.
- Excellent experience with custom scripting (Bash/Powershell/Python) and automation frameworks (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet).
- Exposure to real-time systems and industrial telemetry networks.
- Experience with Atlassian Tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket.
- Expertise in creating repeatable, reliable, scalable systems architectures, with high availability, fault tolerance, and performance tuning.
- Experience implementing layer 3 network topologies.
- Experience working with Firewall administration.
- Experience working within compliance frameworks (NIST, ISO or similar).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
