Civil Litigation Paralegal

Selzer Gurvitch seeks a Civil Litigation Paralegal to join our Litigation practice group. For over 40 years, our firm has provided legal service to clients in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia. This position represents an exciting and unique opportunity for growth within an established and prestigious firm, which is expanding its trust and estate, real estate, lending, business, and transactional law practice.

Qualified candidates will have 5+ years of experience as a litigation paralegal, handling all aspects of civil litigation including assistance with the preparation of pleadings and discovery, research, and courthouse filings and interaction. They will bring a basic knowledge of pretrial and trial experience, federal and state court filing procedures, and the ability to conduct legal research on standard search databases. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

· Assist attorneys in all aspects of litigation, including evidentiary hearings, arbitrations, and trials.

· Interact with clients, witnesses and opposing counsel.

· Participate in interviews of parties, witnesses, and experts and providing assistance with interview memos, written statements, and/or affidavits.

· Perform assigned legal research tasks using all available resources including libraries and computer data systems.

· Assist in preparation of early case assessments and in continued status reporting to clients.

· Create and manage project management schedules, proactively keeping the cases on schedule and on budget.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

· College degree or paralegal certificate.

· 5 years’ experience as a civil litigation paralegal.

· Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.

· Ability to utilize Lexis/Nexis, PACER, and other software as needed. Experience with e-discovery platforms is a plus.

· Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.

· Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical, or spelling errors.

· Ability to deploy the steps to enact lead counsel’s strategy on the cases.

· Possesses excellent interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.

· Some flexibility with scheduling to meet deadlines is desired.

· Willingness to learn new skills, systems, processes, and software applications.

Salary: $85,000 - $105,000 depending on experience. Annual bonuses (variable depending on performance). Onsite work required; potential opportunity for occasional remote work.
