Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based at the School of Fine Art, Amity University Kolkata. The Assistant Professor in Applied Art will teach theory and studio-based courses, guide student projects, conduct critiques, and support learners in building strong portfolios. Responsibilities include designing and updating course content, developing assignments, assessing student performance, and maintaining high academic and professional standards in applied art. The role involves participating in departmental meetings, curriculum planning, exhibitions, and other academic activities, as well as contributing to research, publications, and outreach initiatives. The faculty member will also mentor students on career pathways, internships, and participation in competitions and shows.

Qualifications

• Strong teaching skills in Applied Art with the ability to conduct lectures, demonstrations, critiques, and studio sessions.
• Experience in curriculum development, including designing syllabi, projects, and assessments aligned with current industry and academic standards.
• Proficiency in art and applied art practices, such as illustration, design, visual communication, or related creative disciplines.
• AI, UI/ UX efficiency.
• Knowledge of art history and contemporary visual culture to contextualize practice within historical and theoretical frameworks.
• Research aptitude in fine and applied arts, including the ability to engage in scholarly, practice-based, or interdisciplinary research.
• Master’s degree or higher in Fine Arts / Applied Arts or a closely related field from a recognized institution (PhD preferred or willingness to pursue one).
• Strong portfolio demonstrating professional practice in applied art and evidence of previous teaching or academic experience (preferred).
• Excellent communication, classroom management, and mentoring skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse academic environment.
• Comfort with relevant digital tools, design software, and technology-enhanced teaching methods.
