Job Description

Company Description

The Saskatchewan Mining Association (SMA) is the trusted authority and recognized voice of the exploration and mining sector in Saskatchewan that is driving prosperity in the province and worldwide. The SMA represents Saskatchewan's exploration and mining industry and advances the interests of its members through effective and impactful government advocacy, public outreach and member services.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Public Relations Manager, located in Regina, SK. This leadership role is an opportunity for a communicator to shape the voice, influence, and public presence of Saskatchewan Mining Association at a pivotal time.

As Manager, Public Relations, you will lead SMA’s in-house, full-service communications function — driving strategy, managing high-impact campaigns and stand-out events, and elevating the Association’s profile with the public, government, members and stakeholders. You will be the architect of our story, and a contributor to our government relations efforts.

From media strategy to major events, from digital campaigns to issue response, you’ll operate at the center of it all.

What You’ll Lead

You will develop and execute an integrated and dynamic portfolio that blends strategy with hands-on delivery:

  • Strategic Communications – Design and deliver external and internal communications strategies that advance SMA’s mission, engage stakeholders, and strengthen our public voice.
  • Brand & Content Leadership – Bring our story to life through compelling publications and creative assets—from infographics to flagship magazine content—ensuring consistency, quality, and impact across all channels.
  • Issues & Reputation Management – Anticipate emerging risks, develop key messages, shape proactive responses, and guide coordinated response strategies that advance the Association’s mandate.
  • Media Relations – Act as the central point for media engagement—crafting narratives, managing inquiries, writing news releases and speeches, preparing spokespeople, and positioning SMA as a credible and trusted voice.
  • Digital & Social Presence – Create and drive engaging, data-informed content across platforms, expanding reach and influence through both organic and paid strategies.
  • Website & Content Platforms – Manage website content and ensure our digital presence is current, compelling, and aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Showcase Events – Drive the integrated planning and execution of key Association events, such as Saskatchewan Mining Week, and the Saskatchewan Mining Supply Chain Forum, by managing end to end logistics and ensuring delivery of high-quality experiences.
  • Government Relations – Contribute to provincial and federal strategies by aligning messaging to strengthening advocacy efforts.
  • Sponsorship Development – Build and manage sponsorship programs that enhance events and deepen partner engagement.
  • Member Engagement – Serve as staff lead for the Public Awareness Committee; lead the development of the member e-newsletter; develop and execute annual workplans that align communications, events and advocacy priorities with strategic objectives.

What You’ll Bring

You’re a strategic communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, high-impact environment:

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in communications, public affairs, or marketing
  • A degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Political Science, or related field
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills—able to translate complex issues into compelling narratives
  • Proven experience managing media relations and issues management
  • Digital fluency across social, web, and content platforms, with an eye for analytics and performance
  • Strong political acumen and the ability to navigate complex public policy environments
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines
  • Experience delivering polished, successful events and working with external vendors
  • A collaborative mindset, sound judgment, and a proactive, solutions-focused approach

Assets: Industry familiarity and marketing experience.

What the SMA Offers

  • A purpose-driven role with province-wide and national impact in an industry that delivers benefits across global and local community levels.
  • A supportive, values-based team with strong leadership and deep member engagement.
  • Base salary, plus performance bonus potential.
  • 8.6% employer-contributed RRSP.
  • 100% employer-paid extended health benefits.
  • This is a 37.5-hour workweek position; as a manager, you’ll occasionally flex your time to meet key deadlines or attend events.
  • Limited but meaningful travel (primarily within Saskatchewan).

Why This Role Matters

This role shapes how the SMA shows up – what it says, how it’s heard and the influence it has. From public messaging to stakeholder engagement, your work will influence how SMA is understood, trusted, and valued—by governments, stakeholders, and the public.
