Role Description The News Editor role at Sanmarg is a full-time, on-site position based in Kolkata. The News Editor will oversee daily news operations, including assigning stories, coordinating with reporters and desk teams, and ensuring timely coverage of breaking and developing news. Responsibilities include reviewing, editing, and refining copy for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to editorial standards, as well as writing and restructuring headlines and leads. The role involves planning news pages, prioritizing stories, coordinating with design and production teams, and ensuring alignment with editorial policies and audience needs. The News Editor is also expected to monitor news wires, digital platforms, and competitors, contribute to story ideas, and help shape both print and new media content strategies.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Journalism, with experience in newsroom workflows and editorial decision-making.
- Proficiency in News Writing and general Writing, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and engaging copy under tight deadlines.
- Proven Editorial skills, including copy editing, fact-checking, headline writing, and maintaining style consistency.
- Familiarity with New Media, including digital news platforms, social media, and basic understanding of audience engagement metrics.
- Excellent command of Hindi (required) and working knowledge of English for reference and coordination purposes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong news judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Collaborative mindset, with the ability to guide and mentor reporters and coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams.
