The Team
The U.S. Public Finance Commercial team at S&P Global Ratings manages client relationships and drives business development across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region, partnering with issuers, intermediaries, and senior market participants including CFOs and Treasurers. The team values commercial focus, collaborative execution, and a deep understanding of public finance markets to help clients navigate complex capital markets and credit decisions.

Responsibilities and Impact

Client Coverage & Relationship Management

  • Maintain and grow revenue for assigned U.S. Public Finance clients across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region, developing and executing sales and relationship management strategies aligned with enterprise objectives.

  • Cultivate and maintain senior-level relationships with issuers, intermediaries, and market participants, serving as a credible client advisor on capital markets dynamics, credit fundamentals, and public finance trends while identifying appropriate opportunities for upselling and cross-selling.

Business Development & Market Intelligence

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, leading the sales process from prospecting through closing and communicating S&P Global Ratings' value proposition clearly and persuasively to each client.

  • Conduct market research on public finance trends, regulatory developments, and competitive dynamics, translating insights into practical sales strategies and client engagement plans.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Delivery

  • Partner with analytical, marketing, sales support, and product teams to ensure coordinated client coverage and aligned execution; participate in industry events and conferences to represent S&P Global Ratings and strengthen market visibility.

  • Monitor sales performance metrics, pipeline activity, and account plans, providing recommendations that support sustainable long-term value and disciplined commercial execution.

Compensation/Benefits Information (This section is only applicable to US candidates)

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $100,000 USD to $175,000 USD. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. What We're Looking For

Required Skills and Experience

  • An S&P Global employee at this level would typically have 5+ years of relevant experience in sales, relationship management, or business development within U.S. Public Finance, fixed income, capital markets, banking, credit, or a related financial services sector.

  • Demonstrated track record of sales success, including revenue retention, pipeline development, and disciplined account management with U.S. Public Finance issuers, intermediaries, or related market participants, preferably in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region.

  • Demonstrated ability to serve as an escalation point for complex client matters and articulate market trends, client needs, and commercial opportunities clearly and persuasively to senior internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders across teams, geographies, and functions, incorporating diverse perspectives into client strategies and commercial recommendations.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage competing priorities, client conversations, and internal stakeholder requirements with efficiency and sound commercial judgment.

  • Willingness and ability to travel within the United States in support of client coverage and business development activities.

Preferred or Helpful Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Public Administration, or a related field. An advanced degree such as an MBA is an advantage.

  • Experience with S&P Global Ratings products, services, and the role of ratings in capital markets.

  • Experience coaching or mentoring colleagues to strengthen team capability and performance.

Additional Information

  • We require all candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in-person interview, which is ordinarily at your nearest S&P Global Ratings office. This must be completed before we can proceed to an offer.

  • Employees are required to work from the office a minimum of two days per week.
