Job Description
Position Summary
The Community Programs Director plays a key role in supporting the Royal Roads University Student Association by enhancing current programs and services, researching and developing new initiatives, and evaluating partnerships and engagement strategies. This position is designed to provide a meaningful work experience that builds professional skills in program development, community engagement, research, and digital innovation.
Key Responsibilities1. Program Oversight and Evaluation
- Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of programs and services that align with organizational goals and community needs
- Evaluate program effectiveness using feedback and engagement data
- Identify opportunities for improvement and innovation in existing offerings
2. Community Partnership Development
- Build and strengthen relationships with local organizations, student unions across British Columbia, and partner organizations including the Alliance of BC Students
- Collaborate with community partners and businesses on joint initiatives and events
- Enhance engagement across programs and services through strategic partnerships
3. Research and Development
- Research grant opportunities to support programs and events
- Develop both short-term and long-term project ideas aligned with the organization’s strategic plan
- Conduct environmental scans to identify emerging trends and opportunities
4. Digital Community Building
- Develop and support online events, services, and programming
- Research and recommend digital tools and platforms to improve member engagement
- Enhance online community engagement strategies and identify new outreach channels
5. Collaboration and Reporting
- Organize and facilitate meetings (virtual and in-person) with student unions and partners
- Work closely with the Executive Director to support operational goals aligned with the strategic plan
- Evaluate program engagement and prepare reports with recommendations for the Board of Directors
- Support initiatives that serve both in-person and online communities
Learning Outcomes and Skill Development
This position is structured to provide mentorship and hands-on experience in:

- Digital tools and online community building

Eligibility Requirements
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada
Qualifications & Skills
Required / Core Skills:
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Research and analytical skills, with attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Basic proficiency with Google Workspace
Preferred / Asset Skills:
- Experience in program development, community engagement, or student services
- Familiarity with strategic planning or evaluation methods
- Experience working or volunteering with student organizations or non-profits
- Knowledge of digital engagement tools (e.g., virtual event platforms, online communities, artificial intelligence)
