Job Summary
Area Loss Prevention Manager (ALPM) – responsible for protecting Ross Stores, Inc.’s assets while achieving shortage and safety goals for assigned stores, districts, and area. Implements company-driven shortage and safety solutions, provides leadership to minimize operational shortage, mitigate theft and fraud, and maintain safe and secure environments for associates and customers.
Base salary range: $81,000 – $121,800, plus other rewards and benefits as appropriate.
Essential Functions
- Minimize operational shortage by achieving reduction goals, reviewing shortage indicators, and creating action plans.
- Ensure consistent execution of loss prevention audits and coaching of store leadership.
- Lead shortage-awareness programs such as Shortage Highway and the Loss Prevention Awareness Center.
- Support annual and semi‑annual inventory processes and adhere to budget guidelines.
Mitigating Theft & Fraud
- Investigate and resolve internal and external theft and fraud incidents.
- Maximize use of merchandise protection tools (EAS, domes, alarms, fitting room controls, etc.).
- Drive resolution and case closure for all investigations, collaborating with corporate and external partners.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and communication of theft activity.
- Develop and sustain an effective Store Protection Specialist (SPS) program.
- Share expertise on physical security for new openings, remodels, and expansions.
Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment
- Achieve accident-reduction goals for General Liability and Workers Compensation.
- Conduct safety audits and promote safety-first culture.
- Provide crisis management, incident response, and employee training on investigation findings.
- Ensure security technology functionality and evaluate building integrity.
Developing Great Teams & Partnerships
- Train store leadership, associates, and partners on loss prevention initiatives.
- Promote awareness campaigns and participate in key store meetings.
- Build relationships with corporate partners and field peers, sharing market trends.
- Drive performance management culture and influence operational improvements.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop SPS associates.
- Maintain internal and external communications, including law enforcement and retail theft organizations.
- Support training material development and execute other assigned responsibilities.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required
- BA degree or greater preferred (Business, Criminal Justice, or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of multi‑unit loss prevention or retail experience.
- Experience driving loss prevention, shortage control, accident reduction, and fraud prevention programs.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation skills, and flexibility.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of CCTV systems and exception reporting systems is advantageous.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exhibit highest personal integrity.
Physical Requirements / ADA
Office‑based role with computer use, occasional standing, walking, and contacting via phone. Requires regular in‑office presence, sometimes remote work. Must be able to travel and stand for prolonged periods.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Shared supervisory responsibility for up to 75 store-based Loss Prevention associates (SPS).
