As a Senior Software Engineer, Communications, you’ll be in charge of building rich, immersive and engaging user communication experiences to empower safe and seamless ways for our users and creators to express themselves in different modalities better than in real life with Text, at scale in both 2D and 3D space

The role will focus on advancing our chat architecture through standardizing and centralizing core components across current text chat applications. You will develop innovative capabilities for upcoming products, ensuring an optimal mix of safety measures, user experience, and flexibility for developers. This team is an ideal fit for individuals dedicated to the evolution of human connection who wish to design impactful, secure, and engaging communication tools for millions of global Roblox users

You will work closely with different teams (Avatar, Game engine, Creator, Trust & Safety, other product teams) to build experiences that millions of users engage with on a daily basis, while keeping them safe and civil

You will:

  • Architect and build reusable components that help platformize communication to power user experiences on Roblox.
  • Instrumental in launching high quality real time communication products/features on mobile devices and high end platforms
  • Innovate on the platform to provide creators the tools they need to build deeply tailored & integrated social experiences
  • Devise creative solutions to optimize and scale our systems to support communication for a billion people on the platform.
  • Introduce and improve our processes to help us be more effective and efficient.
  • Enforce high quality standards while we iterate on feature development.
  • Collaborate with other engineering and product teams (Game engine, Creator, Trust & Safety to name a few) at the company to push the boundary of what is possible.
  • Self-organize and take ownership of projects throughout its full lifecycle.
  • Help recruit future talent and mentor engineers for the team



You have:

 

  • 5+ years of experience as a front-end or client apps engineer working on complex user interfaces.
  • Experience working on large-scale consumer applications in React (or other frontend frameworks like Vue, Angular or Svelte) , React Native, iOS, Android, Windows,  Mac OS and other platforms.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical field.
  • Experience collaborating with backend engineers on client/server design and architecture for high-scale products, including knowledge of performance principles like caching and modern technologies.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners in Product, Design, and Data Science to drive meaningful results that align with the team's overarching vision

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range
$196,750$243,290 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
