Mechanical / Robotics Engineer
RehabionixJob Description
We are looking for a Mechanical / Robotics Engineer to take ownership of the mechanical design and development of our hand exoskeleton device. You will work closely with the founding team, electronics engineers, and clinical advisors to translate biomechanical requirements into a wearable, manufacturable, and medically compliant product.
This is a hands-on role. You will not be designing in isolation—you will be printing, breaking, fitting, and refining your own designs and seeing them tested by real users.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, model, and iterate on the mechanical structure of the hand exoskeleton using SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent CAD tools
- Develop finger flexion and extension linkage mechanisms that achieve clinically meaningful range of motion while remaining lightweight and comfortable
- Integrate servo motors, actuators, and mechanical transmissions into a compact wearable assembly
- Build, test, and refine 3D-printed prototypes (FDM and SLA), select appropriate materials, and validate durability under real-use conditions
- Conduct fit testing across different hand sizes and document ergonomic findings
- Collaborate with the electronics and firmware team to ensure mechanical-electrical integration (sensor placement, wire routing, enclosure design)
- Work alongside clinical advisors to align design decisions with patient needs, therapy protocols, and safety standards
- Maintain detailed design documentation, version histories, BOMs, and assembly instructions
- Contribute to design-for-manufacturing (DFM) decisions as we move toward small-batch production
- Support investor demos, technical presentations, and prototype showcases when needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or final-year student) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent)
- Demonstrated experience with 3D printing — slicing, calibration, post-processing, and material selection
- Solid understanding of mechanism design principles: linkages, gears, cable-driven systems, and motor-driven actuation
- Ability to read, create, and interpret technical drawings, tolerances, and assembly instructions
- Hands-on prototyping mindset — comfortable with workshop tools, fasteners, fabrication, and iterative testing
- Clear written and verbal communication in English
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with exoskeletons, prosthetics, orthotics, or wearable robotics
- Exposure to biomechanics, anatomy, or human factors engineering
- Familiarity with medical device standards such as ISO 13485, IEC 60601, or IEC 62366
- Experience integrating actuators with embedded electronics or microcontrollers (Arduino, ESP32, STM32)
- Knowledge of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) for stress, strain, and fatigue simulation
- Previous internship, project, or research experience in assistive technology or rehabilitation devices
- Comfort working in early-stage startup environments where roles overlap and priorities shift
What You'll Get
- A real seat at the table — your design decisions will shape the actual product, not sit in a folder
- Exposure to the full product development cycle: concept → prototype → clinical validation → manufacturing
- Flexibility in how you work — remote, hybrid, or on-site, whichever fits your life
- Compensation discussed based on experience, engagement type, and contribution scope (stipend, salary, contract, or equity arrangements all open)
- Opportunity to grow into a leadership role on the hardware team as the company scales
How to Apply
Send the following to contact@rehabionix.com with the subject line "Mechanical/Robotics Engineer — [Your Name]":
- Your CV or résumé
- A portfolio, GitHub, or document showcasing past CAD work, 3D-printed projects, or any hardware you've built (academic, personal, or professional — all welcome)
