Job Description
Washington, D.C. Correspondent
Really American Media
Really American Media—a progressive, reader-and-viewer-funded news network reaching millions across YouTube, Facebook, Substack, and podcasts—is seeking a fearless Washington, D.C. correspondent to cover the politics that actually shape everyday Americans' lives. We're building the media infrastructure to fight back against the billionaire capture of American journalism, and we need a reporter in the capital who can hold power accountable and explain what's really happening to the people it affects most.
This is not an entry-level position. Applicants must arrive with their own relationships among lawmakers, staffers, and the D.C. press corps. Some salary flexibility exists for extensive experience and contacts.
We're looking for a reporter with judgment and personality who can think on their feet, get the interview, and go the extra mile for the story. If you're fed up with access journalism and corporate stenography—and you want to expose how Washington and the people leading our government down a conservative path are failing ordinary people—this role is for you.
Reporting directly to Really American Media leadership, you'll be responsible for:
- Daily video reporting covering the full landscape of U.S. politics, with a focus on the decisions and failures in Washington that profoundly affect everyday Americans.
- On-the-ground interviews, both with members of Congress and officials on the move and with everyday people on the street, capturing what's actually happening in real time.
- Source development — building relationships with lawmakers, staffers, whistleblowers, and activists who know what's happening behind closed doors.
- Breaking news coverage — rapid-response reporting on developing political stories, with the ability to go live and provide immediate analysis.
- Accountability research — digging into voting records, financial disclosures, and lobbying connections to expose hypocrisy and corruption.
- Cross-platform storytelling — producing content that cuts through political spin and delivers unvarnished truth across video and social platforms.
- Event coverage — attending hearings, press conferences, protests, and other political events to capture footage and interviews.
Required Skills
- D.C. relationships — you must arrive with existing contacts among lawmakers, staff, and the press corps. This is not an entry-level role.
- Political sophistication — deep knowledge of how Washington actually works and who the key players are.
- News judgment — the ability to spot the real story beneath the political theater and frame it so it breaks through the noise.
- On-camera reporting — you don't need to be a production expert, but you must be comfortable interviewing on camera, being interviewed, and reporting live.
- Fearless interviewing — comfortable confronting politicians with tough questions and following up when they dodge.
- Digital fluency — a working understanding of YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and the other platforms where political conversations happen.
- Multi-platform production — the ability to shoot and publish quickly across formats. Video editing experience is a plus.
Requirements
- Prior reporting experience for a major news outlet—traditional or new media—strongly preferred.
- A demonstrated track record of political reporting and a body of on-camera work.
- The ability to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Washington, D.C.-area residence.
What We Offer
- Starting pay of $85,000, with the potential for a higher starting salary based on experience, plus the room to grow with one of the fastest-growing independent political brands.
- Full editorial independence—no billionaire owners to appease.
- A platform with millions of engaged readers and viewers.
- The chance to shape the future of independent, grassroots-funded political media.
What Moves You to the Front of the Line
- A standout on-camera track record.
- Press credentials already secured in Washington, D.C.
