Job Description
1. Communication:
The export merchandiser must communicate with a variety of departments and professionals in the apparel industry. There are several departments, including sourcing and purchasing, accounts, production, and shipping. Professionals such as current and new buyers, higher authorities, assistants, suppliers, and laborers.
2. Planning:
The export merchandiser intends the TNA Plan, critical path or order scheduling, requirements, and order execution. The merchandiser also programs yarn purchasing, knitting, dyeing, printing, sampling, production process, and inspection.
3. Keep track
The export merchandiser must keep track of whether each task was completed on time or not, and if a problem arises, a solution must be devised to resolve the issue. Knitting, dyeing, printing, sampling, garment production, and shipping are all processes. After the buyer's or buying house's approval, production must begin.
4. Decision-making
Merchandisers make several decisions regarding order processing in the apparel industry. Such as buyer selection, sourcing and purchasing accessories, approvals for fabric, color, printing, packing, and supplier selection. If there is a problem with order execution, the merchandiser will extend the time frame with the buyer's knowledge.
5. Sourcing
Sourcing is also a component of export merchandiser, but buyers are increasingly aware of sourcing. The buyer sources the exact accessories on their own for a low price, good quality, and no approval is required. The buyer directs the merchandiser to simply follow and purchase the accessories.
6. Negotiation
Negotiation by merchandisers is one of the more challenging parts of the apparel industry. It is a process of persuading, bargaining, and striking a deal with the buyer. Price, approvals, quality, quantity, and shipment timings are all negotiables.
7. Costing
Costing in the apparel industry is done by merchandisers in collaboration with higher-ups. The process of estimating or determining the cost of a product and its revenue price is known as costing. Following the cost estimation, the negotiation period starts with the buyer. Merchandisers want to update current prices and crises to ensure accurate costing.
8. Coordination
Coordination is an important parameter for the merchandiser. The potential risk of difficulties in the apparel production process is high, and this may have an effect on the production process. If a problem arises, the merchandiser must work with the team to complete the task successfully and on time.
9. Meeting
To know the status of the order, the merchandiser should indeed hold a weekly meeting with production and other related departments. If there is a problem in the production, the merchandiser or production manager will come up with an alternative solution to solve the problem. The merchandiser is required to attend a meeting with the boss or buyer to report on the status of the order
