As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will play an instrumental role in transforming software engineering by promoting the integration of development and operations through an all-encompassing platform. Your technical and problem-solving abilities will shape the future of software development, allowing teams to deliver high-quality, secure software efficiently. By offering automated services, you empower software engineers to focus on developing mission capabilities.

Your primary responsibility will be to equip development teams with a strong platform that improves collaboration, streamlines processes, and accelerates release cycles, ultimately fostering efficiency and innovation.

You will work within an agile team responsible for managing both development and operational environments, which consist of diverse servers, workstations, storage, networks, and custom hardware. These environments form the backbone of our enterprise hybrid-cloud system for product development and testing, supporting a large program that produces a crucial national asset. The role will involve hands-on engineering work as well as documentation and baseline control.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to modernize systems closely tied to underlying infrastructure.
  • Enhance performance and scalability of on-premises VMware computing environments.
  • Utilize industry best practices to improve scalability, efficiency, and automate configuration management.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, and DevOps teams to design and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Integrate security and compliance measures into the platform, including encryption and access management.
  • Provide operational support for the platform.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in containerization technologies like Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Experience with applications developed, tested, and delivered within a DevSecOps framework.
  • Skilled in programming/scripting languages such as Python, Java, Ruby, Bash, C++, C#, or Go.
  • Active, current TS/SCI/CI Poly security clearance is essential from day 1.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Agile Development Methodologies (e.g., Scrum, SAFe).
  • Familiarity with CICD pipeline tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Jenkins, Artifactory, GitLab).
  • Knowledge of automation frameworks like Chef, Puppet, and Ansible.
  • Experience with scanning tools (e.g., Nessus, Fortify, Anchore).
  • Multi-disciplined infrastructure expertise (Server, Storage, Network Hardware).
  • Background in COTS/FOSS product integration and configuration.
  • Skilled in designing, implementing, and integrating platform infrastructure with IaC techniques.
  • Current CompTIA Security + certification or the intent to obtain it.

The expected salary range for this position is $86,800 - $165,200. This estimate reflects a range across various experience levels. RTX considers several factors when making an offer, including role responsibilities, candidate experience, location, education, and skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible schedules, employee assistance programs, employee scholarship programs, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits depend on the business unit and whether the position falls under a collective bargaining agreement. Newly hired employees may qualify for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs based on the position's level and eligibility criteria. Payments under these programs are subject to performance evaluations. This role is based in the U.S. If the selected candidate is based in a U.S. territory, the relevant pay structure and benefits will be applied.
