Job Description

Job title – Sr. Manager RMEL

Location – Mumbai/ Pune with some travels to field locations

Job Summary

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about addressing developmental issues and eager to play a key role in supporting our mission.

The potential candidates should have is a master’s degree or equivalent in Program Monitoring and Evaluation, Environmental Science, Climate Science, Forestry, Agriculture, Water Resource Management, Natural Resource Management, or related discipline with 6- 8 years of experience.

The person has to be highly motivated and detail-oriented person must have some background on reporting on environment / agriculture/ water.

Key Responsibilities

1. MEL Strategy and System Design

· Lead the design and implementation of robust Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) systems for programs focused on climate-resilient agriculture, watershed and spring-shed management, soil and water conservation, and biodiversity conservation

· Develop and operationalize integrated MEL frameworks for agriculture–water–biodiversity systems, including defining indicators for soil health, water availability, crop diversity, and ecosystem restoration

· Design and oversee landscape-level assessments, climate vulnerability analyses, and ecosystem service evaluations

· Ensure alignment of MEL systems with program goals, donor requirements, and adaptive management needs

2. Data Systems, Analytics and Insights

· Establish and strengthen data systems leveraging government MIS and program-level monitoring platforms across agriculture, watershed, forestry, and rural livelihoods sectors

· Lead the management, analysis, and interpretation of diverse datasets (e.g., farm productivity, rainfall, groundwater/spring flows, land use, vegetation cover, biodiversity indicators)

· Generate actionable insights and dashboards to support program teams in evidence-based decision-making

· Ensures data quality, integrity, and effective use of MEL systems

3. Program Implementation and Field Integration

  • Integrate MEL systems into on-ground program implementation across ecologically sensitive, hilly, and rain-fed landscapes
  • Facilitate participatory monitoring approaches with smallholder and tribal communities, strengthening community-based natural resource management systems
  • Support field teams in data collection, validation, and use for continuous program improvement
  • Ensure contextualization of MEL approaches to local ecological and socio-economic conditions

4. Partnerships, Coordination and Technical Oversight

  • Provide technical oversight to consultants, partners, and vendors on MEL activities, including surveys, research, GIS/remote sensing, and digital monitoring solutions
  • Collaborate with government departments (forest, agriculture, watershed, rural development), research institutions, and civil society organizations to align MEL efforts and data systems
  • Facilitate multi-stakeholder coordination for data sharing, validation, and joint reviews
  • Build capacities of partners and program teams on MEL frameworks, tools, and data use
  • Contribute to proposal development by designing MEL frameworks, defining indicators, budgeting for MEL components, and articulating learning and impact pathways

Key competencies

· Experience of working in the development sector- applies systems thinking to understand agriculture–water–forest–biodiversity linkages in the Western Ghats

· Works independently in remote settings while managing priorities and supporting decentralized teams

· Translates complex data into actionable insights for decision-making

· Proficient in basic computer skills- MS word, Excel and MS PowerPoint.

· Experience of using GIS, remote sensing, and statistical tools for analysis and program monitoring

· Encourages and has a learning mindset

· Good interpersonal and organisational skills.

· Ability to meet the tight deadlines and someone who loves to work in team.

· Demonstrates strong language proficiency in English and Hindi; working knowledge of regional languages (e.g., Marathi) is an advantage
